Becoming a vegetarian?

I have given a lot of thought to it recently, and am interested in becoming a vegetarian. Do any vegetarians have any tips how to get started? Or maybe some recipes for beginners?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    Some regions to do it in are easier than others. If you live in a cold area it gets harder as you go, the warmer the better. I tried three or four times to become vegetarian before I got it right. Almost everyone in India, for example, are vegetarians. But living in Japan was nearly impossible due to the costs of substitute food in comparison to relatively cheap seafood, etc. Alaskans have it even harder.

    Start first by just cutting back. That is a great help, and if you can do more than also take it step by step.. That way you might not ever fall back..

    I just became a vegetarian about 8 months ago. I do love it but it is difficult for a while. If you are really interested you just have to be committed. There are a bunch of websites to get you started: http://www.vrg.org/ or goveg.com. They both give you recipes to get started and help you know what items to avoid. Just make sure you get enough protein in your diet to stay healthy because that's what keeps your immune system going. Soy or Whey protein powder is good with some soy milk (just a suggestion). Its something good to try because I personally feel alot healthier, and lost some weight from it. Its alot of work, but believe me it feels great.

    i'm a vegetarian and i found it hard the first few weeks but you can cook spaghetti or lasagna and then just replace the meat with quorn, as it is a meat substitute, and really you can not taste the difference and because quorn doesn't have the fat which meat does you don't put any weight on when eating it. I'm sure you can find plenty of vegetarian recipes on the internet!

    Pressure cooker + beans (mung, lima, chickpeas are my favorites) + cumin seeds, coriander, cayenne, tumeric, fenugreek, cinnimon, cloves, ginger, parsley or cilantro, little sugar + veggies + basmati rice (cooked seperate or in same pot) + virgin olive or coconut oil (I add at the end) + basmati rice = wholesome satisfying meals in under 30 minutes.

    One way is put the beans and spices in the pot with a combination of spices and veggies and about 4X water to beans. When the pressure is max, take off and start rice 2X water to rice w. some salt. Put lid on, let boil and then simmer for 20 minutes.

    You can serve the beans over the rice, and it is better than any gravy.

    Alternately, you can throw the rice into the beans after the pressure maxes and then you shut the flame, let it come down again. remove the lid and throw in the rice. Put it on flame again, let it max pressure. Then kill the flame.

    When the pressure comes down (stem escapes), it should be through.

    Throw in your parsley or silantro, your veggies if you wanted them rawer, and the oil.

    That is called Kitri.

    The former is called rice and dahl (beans).

    I read the book "Skinny *****" which helped get me started, and I ordered a free vegetarian starter pack from peta. These resources helped me find online communities that share experiences and recipes.

    Some people would recommend converting in stages, cutting out red meat, then pork and poultry then fish, but after learning the awful truths of meat I made the entire switch to vegan-ism quicker that overnight!

    i am a vegetarian, when i first went vegetarian i slowly cut back on meat, then i ate none at all, and started eating alot of quorn stuff, i have been vegetarian for 8 months (i no it doesnt seem that long yet) but i would never go back to eating meat now.

    Hey. Its good that you are considering it. You are doing yourself, the animals, and the environment a favor.

    I did it for a little over a year, now i eat white meat.

    I suggest that you start off slow, eliminate the red meat first, then gradually start eliminating the white meats.

    Make sure you eat plenty of beans, as they are rich in protein.

    it really not as hard as most ppl think, well at least for me it wanst.

    i think wat makes it easier is that im a vegetarian because of my discuss with animal cruelty.

    and as for food u dont just have to eat salad and veggies.

    i get food from giant eagle. they have stuff like meatless chicken nuggets, hot dogs, burgers, chicken patties and a whole bunch of other cool stuff that is meatless but tastes delicious.

    I would re-think it. No matter what you use as substitutes for the real things you will be replacing, you just wont be getting enough.Especially if your young and still growing (25 and under). I think it's wonderful of you to want to do this, I can appriciate where your coming from, however, you don't want to undernurish yourself because of this.
