Okay, I'm going to give it a shot. Obama didn't run a campaing based on color. The media put that out there. Many Obama supporters are aware that he is HALF WHITE (not just raised by white people, thats his MOTHER & STEP FATHER, his parents were divorced & his father passed.) So what. There are many bi-racial children in America, im not sure where you are from, but in the major states & cities where there is diversity, we don't use those terms, or care tht people are bi-racial. Actually there was an article posted on yahoo news today citing that other countries & many americans are glad that we've finally chosen a truly GLOBAL person to represent the US, because the US is home to more diversity than any other place on the globe. With that said, the fact that he's 1/2 white, 40% Arab-African, 10% Black-American with a father from Kenya, spent parts of his childhood in Indonesia, went to a Muslim elementary school, had a white muslim father, has a 1/2 indonesian step-sister, lived in hawaii, chicago & indiana makes him a-okay with me. My opinion if I put race into it would be that he could better relate to all US citizens, and better understand the issues of the world, because unless you've spent real time (months) in another country, living amongst its citizens, then you don't really know what it is. (i have experienced it, & its humbling & eye-opening)

Also note, many people want to belittle his win by saying its only because of his color, but honestly look at his views & listen to the debates with your eyes closed & then tell me he wasn't the better candidate. Honestly I shed a tear before they announced the President, because whomever it would have been would have the toughest road ever. Our situation will not be fixed in 4yrs. or 8ys. This presidency will only pave the road for the next person, and we must realize that. Had McCain won, & things not changed or been slow to change, we'd scream "see another George Bush." If things are slow with Obama, people will scream "see he did nothing." So, we as Americans must just remember that we're in this together & its like dropping glass on the floor, it only took 2sec to break, 10min to get the big pieces, but you could be cleaning & feeling the effects of those unknowns for months.

As for racism amongst the black community, against our own is a self-hatred, not feeling good enough & being upset some people don't represent us in a better light. Unfortunately a lot of the world still views us as the bottom of the todem pole, even people who've migrated here & we're irritated by the battle of having to prove our worth. Having Obama as president seems to ease that stress a bit, he is the strength many of us needed. Racism against white people. Of course there is. And in my opinion those black people are equal just as ignorant and a drain on society as the white racists. As the asian racist. as the latin racist. As the sexist. One thing you must realize though, is just as much of the repubs are becoming more "liberal" & their loyalty is leaning back toward America vs their own party, such is the way of the dems. Becoming more "conservative" and more pro-america, less the party. Look at California, the most "liberal" state, voted No on gay marriage & to have the constitution changed, We have one of the largest gay populations. We voted to ban affirmative action like 12yrs ago, and we still have prominent self-suffiecient minorites. (dont get me wrong there are still some that could use a kik in the bottom) But that should really tell you something, if you think that because Obama is in office all of a sudden we'll become communists, you're wrong. Obviously, working Americans are tired of not having an opportunity. I am 26yrs old, $90,000 in debt for school & can't get senior level classes because my republican governor cut $ from school & put it in the prison system & to big business. I work full-time, but can't afford a home of my own (so i rent & pay an inflated amt) because the wages @ my job are barely living wage and I cant get a promotion to a better position with this global company I work for, until i finish school! I'm also a small business owner to make some extra money. I need a break, and I'm sick of listening to republicans who say "you don't work hard enough thats why you are where you are, it's not our fault." No it's not your fault that you came from an upper class family and i came from a VERY middle class family, and its not your fault that you want to look out for your own pockets, but I need a president who can see my struggle & understands that every American doesn't have the same opportunities & wants to help level the playing feild even just a little for those of us who are seriously trying, so

First of all, Obama won because he's black. If Obama was fully white, the same exact man, just in a white body, he probably would have never even made it to the democratic debates, and certainly would have lost to Hillary. Obama would have never beat Hillary in any circumstance if he was white. He also would have never beat McCain if he was white. There were just too many voters in swing states that voted for the black man, not Obama.

Secondly, I think that it's racist to call someone an uncle tom. It's terribly and unacceptably racist to demand that blacks vote democrat or are considered traders (uncle tom's). That's just so clearly racist.

I'm half mexican, and I vote according to my ideologies and principles, not according to race. I don't care the plight of the Mexican in this country. I wouldn't vote for a hispanic because it would be a good step for hispanics. I vote according to my principles, which are conservative.

In a way, I'm kind of glad for black people as they've had an unequaled struggle in this country. But in a way I'm glad it's over with. We voted that black guy in. Now can we please move past all these racial issues and just vote for the best guy for the job.

I don't know if you can call it racist that it was ONLY because he was black. Do you think Jesse Jackson would of hade the same support as Obama did from african-americans? Or from whites who are also being accused of voting for him just because he is black? If it is based ONLY on the color of his skin then any african-american would of been able to do what Obama did.

I think we need to move away from the word of "racism" and just start talking about discrimination. Because we all know discrimination still exists whether it is based off of race, sex, age, religion, culture, or the part of the country you live in. We can't just fight racism and ignore the rest...we have to crack the thought that basing any opinion on anything other than a persons actions is wrong.

Voting for someone because they are Black is not racism or racist. While doing this isn't necessarily a good thing, it's more about racial pride. By definition the "racist" person must believe their race is inherently superior to others. I don't' think Black people voted for Obama because they think he is racially superior. Good for you that you state that you are an American first and will not cheer against your own country. That is admirable.

A lot of the fear about Obama was created by the Republicans. The ads toward the end got really nasty towards Obama. The hatred from the republican party turned me off.

I dont look for him to ruin this country or take us down. I dont look for him to be able to do everything he said he would do. I will give him a chance though and no matter who is in charge I hope and pray they have the best intentions for this country.

nope your absolutely correct. according to official statistics and the fbi blakcs commit 90% of all hate crimes which occur each year in america. there is about 1.7 million hate crimes each year and blacks are responsible for most of this. yet it seems a white man is more persecuted than a black man if he does something of a racist nature. yet facts PROVE this and also considering there are a lot less blacks in america there must be quite alot of racism amongst the black community aswell as the white, even though in my opinion racism is wrong and shouldn't really be spread.

Let me explain something to you.

Being black is a "counter culture". There are aspects of being black that aren't "acceptable" in conservative America. The values we hold are skewed in a way that they aren't the same as those held in the Conservative Party. That puts us in a group with Jews, and Muslims, and Gays, and Youth, and Artists, and to a large extent women. Notice all these groups are almost automatically assumed to be part of the Democratic party.

To a large extent that is what makes up a Democrat. A Democrat is someone that holds something dear that the Conservatives would take away if they could. (freedom of expression, culture, religious tolerance, sexual preference, freedom of speech, marajuana, etc.).

Once a black person embraces the "Middle American Culture" more than "black culture", they no longer see the need to be a Democrat. At that point other things guide their political views. If that thing is something that would encourage them to be a Republican, they are now someone who would vote FOR a person that would seek to eliminate "black culture". At that point we call them a "sell out," or an "Uncle Tom".

This is a HUGE problem in the black community, and it has been since slavery. Few black people would deny that we are very racist against our own kind when they "sell out". Clarence Thomas and Condolezza Rice are perfect examples of black people who we should be up there with Malcolm X and Martin Luther King whose names don't even come up during black history month because they are viewed as "Sell Outs".

It took a while for black people to get behind Obama because when he was running against Hillary we weren't sure if he was a sell out or not. Ironically, what mobilized the black community around Obama was in part the Reverand Wright thing that almost destroyed his chances.

Here's why. There is a pattern that is used to destroy black leaders and keep black people from getting ahead in life. It was a lot more prevalent in the 50s thru the 80s but it still exists today. It goes like this:

1) Point out any shortcomings in their resume (they do this to ALL people not just blacks)

if that doesn't work...

2) Create new requirements or start enforcing previously ignored requirements to exclude us from contention (almost exclusively to blacks and minorities)

3) Point out any social indiscressions they have (again all people)

if that doesn't work...

4) Point out any allegences they have that are questionable (they do this to everyone too but more so to Af-Ams).

5) Create false allegences to people that are questionable (call them terrorists, or communists, or socialists, or radicals, etc).

This process is what we black people call "the Bull$#!+". If you pay attention we talk about it all the time at work and it shows up alot in black music.

Once the black community saw Obama going through "the bull$#!+" we rallied behind him in a major way.

Funny they put Clarence Thomas thru it too, but because he was a "sell out" we didn't support him AT ALL!!! Once it became clear that he was NOT one of us (blacks) they stopped putting him through the bull$#!+ and let him join the "good ole' boy's" network.
