How do I get my roommate to help clean the house?
OK, I'm ashamed to admit it... she has been here a year and hasn't cleaned ONCE.
I've approached her in a friendly manner about this a few times and she always says something like "I know, I'm just so busy. I should help you clean."
But then after that, she doesn't lift a finger.
How can I approach her about this after having failed so many times?
Uzma U - I do that almost every week, that's the problem. It has no effect on her.

Hopefully, you have separate bedrooms. Whatever she leaves hanging around in the kitchen and common areas, just put on her bed. As soon as you see it, not once a week.
You may have to resolve yourself to keeping the common areas clean for your own sanity. Then, start looking for a new roommate, cause she's gonna leave. You've spoiled her.

I would simply raise her portion of the rent as you have assumed the responsibility of being the "housekeeper".. If she's home I would tell her nicely it's "HER" turn to do the dishes, clean the livingroom whatever it is that needs to be done.... If she leaves a mess.... Pick-up the mess and leave it in her bed... Then look in the paper for new roommate...
Good luck

If I were you, I'd take her mess and put it all in her bedroom. Let her dishes and her laundry pile up. As long as you do for her, she'll let you.
