Is the Intel Core 2 Duo Q6600 a good proc for $190?

I am going to be building my first computer pretty soon, and am trying to decide on what processor to purchase. I only want to spend around $800-$900 on the entire computer.

My question is whether or not the Core 2 Duo Q6600 is a good processor for $190. It will be used mostly for some video encoding, a bit of gaming, light photo editing, and lots of programming.

If you need more information just say so in the answer, and more will be provided within a day, so remember to check back.

Also, if you know of any good forums where I could ask these types of questions I would be very appreciative if you would tell me.

Thanks for any answers provided.

I'd say its a very good budget processor, and the quad core will definitely help out during video encoding and photo editing. It also overclocks fairly well.

And as for a recommended forum, I'd have to say:

is a very helpful site, even if you don't plan to overclock your CPU.

For the Intel Core 2 QUAD Q6600 processor that is about the best price you are going to find it especially plus free shipping. You will not find a cheaper quad core processor around that performs as well for what you are needing it for.

the Q6600 is the most popular cpu for a new gaming computer and its quad core not dual

But get thhe E8600 as its bettre than the Q6600 even though its a dual core

    but Q6600 for $190 is a steal

relies upon. in case you're gaming, maximum video games dont make the main of all 4 cores, so the q6600 runs like a 2.4ghz twin middle if so, it rather is worse. in case you're doing enhancing and stuff like that or courses that help quad middle, the q6600 will rein over the e8500.
