cartilage piercing advice...?

ok, so I kinda feel odd asking this since normally i'm the one helping people with piercing questions, but until yesterday I've never had my cartilage pierced.

I got a rook to forward helix orbital done. heres what one looks like though mine is more vertical than horizontal because of the shape of my ear.

anyway... I just want to know if having a slight ache is normal with cartilage piercings. I know what to do as far as icing and painillers to minimize it, but I just want to know if its normal or not.

by the way i highly doubt that it has something to do with the jewelry because I've got a very large diameter ring in to minimize pressure.

I would especially like to hear from people who have had orbitals done before.

thanks!

The ache is definitely normal, especially because its going through the rook which is a hell of a lot of cartilage, i've had my rook for a while, and every now and then it will throb, definitely do your best not to sleep on it, that's a sure way to irritate it, after the ache goes away, it won't be so bad, but it will still feel like it's bruised for a while.

    awesome piercing by the way!

It's going to hurt for awhile, mine took about a good two weeks before it was not as sore, but it was tender for at least 6 months..Your cartilage took a beating and it's making you pay now lol..Just ice it and take painkillers as needed, but don't worry it's normal i went through the same thing two years ago,i still have it and love it..Good luck..

im sooo jealous of you. that is one of the sickest piercings ive seen so far. i pierced my rook myself with a needle. after finally getting an earring thru it i couldnt keep it in. it hurt way to bad. yours is completly normal to hurt. i had my cartilage pierced (just the simple one) buti also did it myself. i takes 6 weeks to heal and about 1-2 to stop hurting, good luck with the pain just ice it and clean it and take pain killers,
