What are the white spots that sometimes show on my fingernail?

Occasionally I get these white spots that start at my cuticle and eventually go to the top of my nail. I get them on my toes as well. Is it a vitamin deficiency? Or is it something else? Thanks in Advance

If it is a recurring thing then its usually a zinc deficiency.

I am a vegetarian and before i sorted my diet out i was getting these white marks on my nails which i was mistakenly putting down to lack of calcium [which is a myth].

this link will show you how zinc plays a role in our diets and sources of zinc so you can add to you're diet.

Zinc deficiency can also cause other symptoms so rethinking you're diet would certainly make a difference to you're health in general.

Usually caused by previous injuries to the nail bed but may be caused by zinc deficiency.
