What do average Americans think about Iraq?

And Iraqi people? And Palestinians? And Palestine? and Iran? And Iranians? I mean, as people, as nations?

Update:

Do Americans think that they are at war with Iraq or these other countries(and territory)?

Update 2:

I'm not sure why a Jew should hate all Iraqis...they did nothing to you...or for that matter why anyone would hate a whole nation of people that they see on TV, especially when you are bombing their citizens, or why you wouldn't know more about a country that you are invading and why, but I did find your answers very enlightening. Was that passive-aggressive or what? hee hee Thank you!

Iraq -- A country that posed no threat

Iraqi people -- Human beings, need to be left alone

Palestine -- A country we created, and we will no doubt destroy one day

palestinians -- Human beings, need to be left alone

Iran -- A country which poses no threat, but we will likely invade soon

Iranian people -- Human beings, need to be left alone

I'm sorry.. I don't buy into the whole "to save you we may need to kill you".. we went into iraq to insert democracy so the people are free but

If I was willing to offer my life for freedom, I would get a gun, get some friends, and start a revolution. I would not want or need your help.

No, I don't believe we are at war, We just have our military occupying their country.

I'm an average American and I think we should have never

invaded that country. We could have removed Saddam

Hussein (if absolutely necessary), without killing thousands of Iraqis and countless American young men and destroying a lovely country. I think we should leave there ASAP.

As for the Palestinians, they should have their own

homeland and there should be definite boundaries around them and Israel. There should be a peace agreement between the two so they can both live in peace.

They used to live peaceably together, and I believe they still can.

Our world now has many religions. I don't understand why we can't each practice what we believe in and let the others do the same. Why should one religion try to control another. Can't we respect each others differences and let it go at that?

Average knowledge is probably minimal. Those with an opinion of those people probably have negative thoughts backed by poor logic. There's definitely some crowd that will think "We're at war with them, so they're bad people." But I would say that is below the 'average American'.

I know little of the countries in that area. Generally when thinking of that area, I imagine a simple developing country. With that, I anticipate its culture won't interest me, giving me no reason to pursue knowledge of the area. Those countries are an area I have no interest in visiting, they have no direct impact upon my life, and thus I am not slightly curious about them.

I think neither negatively nor positively about those people and nations. If one were to be visiting here in America (and they spoke English to an extent I could understand) then I would treat them as I would any other person. Though I probably wouldn't even come to know they were from such a country, since I am not concerned as to what a person's origins are. I suppose just speaking English is the important part when it comes to my interaction with them.

I feel sorry for the women who are not given the same freedoms & rights of the men. I will never, ever, be able to understand all of the fighting and murdering which takes place over religion; e.g. between the Sunni's, Shiites, Hindus, Christians, Jews etc. Or between various tribes. It makes no sense to me. I see Middle Eastern countries as constantly battling each other. (Remember, you didn't ask how we felt about our own country and the unjust war begun by good old Bush). Prior to 9/11, I didn't know much of anything about the Middle Eastern countries but now that I know more I know that they are countries which I would never want to visit. On a positive note, I see nothing wrong with Islam and it wouldn't bother me for one bit if we elected a president who was Muslim. I do not associate the terrorists with the mainstream Muslims. Or am I wrong about that?

Depends on if their terrorists or not.As a military spouse i believe that it depends on the person as a person.I've met Iraqis that have come to America because of their dedication to the US military as translators and we're granted visas, they're great people .On the other hand there are the corrupt like any other country. So i can't judge and nation/country or its people in a lump sum because it's not logical. To each their own.

I think they are a functional nation and have plenty of great people, and I would like to meet some of them because unfortunately I have only met men from there that were desperate to date or just mess around. So, I guess I don't think very highly of the men, I hope one day that will change.

To be honest the average American has no idea what's going on in the world. It's not good but its the truth.

the 25%-30% that do thinks that like any other place in the world there are good and bad people there

I think there's been a lot of good things going on there. I think some Americans feel insecure, cause the media sends us mixed messages about who hates us there and who embraces us there. Hopefully the worst is over!!

The average american? well the average american i'd say considers them foreigners in another place that no one cares about and yet we are fighting all of them because they hate us for some unknown reason. But maybe i just doubt the collective intelligence of average americans

i feel that like all nations you have extremists, and that is dangerous, the ave iraqi is not our enemy but those who feel as the extremist terrorists do well they are the enemy.
