The genre is in the title... It is a symphony and a fine example of the symphonic form at that.

Source(s): conductor, composer and college professor for 30 years. I've conducted all of Beethoven's symphonies except for No. 9.

To clear things up, there are several musical periods in well, music. From what I learned in History 4, there is the Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Classical, Romantic and Modern. Beethoven's Symphony No.5 is obviously a symphonic genre (Tempo arrangement, FAST-SLOW-MODERATE DANCE-FAST). The first mvmt of a symphony is usually an Allegro, in Sonata-Allegro form, 2nd mvmt is Ternary, Theme and Variation, or Modified Sonata-Allegro from, the thrird is a Scherzo and Trio for Beethoven, and the last mvmt is is a Sonata-Allegro Form or Rondo form. He wrote 9 symphonies, this one was written in his Period of Externalisation. Each of his symphonies have a very triumphant character in the last movement. If you want more detail, (e.g. piece descriptions, music, video) just send me an email.

So you might think. Of course it's classical. So I'm a clear things up. In Classical music as a genre, there are 4 periods in time when music for this genre were composed. Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern, and anything in between. Beethoven was very late classical. So his works are considered classical.

Umm.. it's a symphony. the title suggests that

I'm amazed by this. You even name the type of piece it is in the title and again when you list the possible type it could be. I'm not going to say it for you. I'll just tell you to actually LOOK at the title. You'll figure it out once you actually pay some attention to it.
