How do I improve my endurance for running in cold weather?

I have been running 5-7 days a week since April. I usually run between a mile and a mile and a half. Now that the cold weather has hit I've been struggling. I dress appropriately for running in the cold but can't get more than about one half mile before I feel like I hit a wall. I warm up well before going out.

Does anyone have any suggestions for getting back to the distance I was at before winter started?

    Run indoors on a treadmill.

There is a reason winter is called the "off season".

Running outside in the cold is often hard when you begin running. It really makes your lungs stronger running in the cold due to the coldness and the dryness of the air. What you want to do is probably start out slowly and work up your pace towards the end or go on an elipticle. Just because its cold doesn't mean you have to take a break. Make sure if you want to run inside though you use an elipticle, treadmills cause much excessive force on the legs and can often cause injury if running on them to excessively. The longer you run the stronger your lungs will get and by this time next year the cold won't bother you much at all.

it is not a powerful theory to run in any respect in very chilly climate. The blood could have a extra durable activity circulating around the muscle tissues and you could reason injury. Even warming up before won't help that lots as you nonetheless would be out interior the chilly afterwards and subject to an identical problems. the two wait until eventually springtime or purchase a treadmill for iciness working.

I just started in March myself, and living in Southeastern Canada its' tough to keep it going, right now I can't run without slipping. The key is to take it slowly and realize that there are just not going to be days you can get out and run, perhaps pick up a workout video for those days or get to the gym.

Myself, I just make myself go out and put a mental block of ''oh it's too cold'' or ''too much snow'' etc. I find my ipod helps distract me and keep me going.

You really just have to make yourself do it and be aware that you're doing something that not everyone can or wants to do and feel good about what you are accomplishing not what you aren't.

It may take a few weeks but you will eventually get acclimated to running in the cold weather. Also- slow down for now and concentrate on the distance and not the speed.

Start running at a slow jog the first half mile to acclimate your lungs to the cold air. Also they say you should breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth to warm the air.
