What's causing my 2 year old daughters' hives?
Two weeks ago my daughter broke out into hives all over her body. I thought at first it was something she ate, but then figured out the rash started the night before so if couldn't have been that food. She had just gotten over a cold/mild fever virus. I couldn't think of any particular food that would have caused them. After a few days that went away. Now, 2 weeks later she breaks out again. I'm going out of my mind because I have no clue as to what could have caused them. She's been coughing for several days at night, but no fever or any other cold symptoms. I use fragrance free everything including detergent and softener sheets due to my other daughters' allergies and eczema. Has anyone else experienced this and not been able to figure it out?
I already took her to the doctor. They just said to keep a journal of what she's eating. They can't do anything else for hives. She's to young to be allergy tested, at least a skin scratch test.

she is not too young for skin testing. my youngest had it done at 8months. he had it again about 18m. he's 26m now. best thing you can do is keep a strict food diary and watch her like a hawk. something is causing her to have an allergic reaction. you also dont have to have changed anything in her diet or surroundings. allergies can actually pop up at any given time.
if you really want the allergy testing done, find a pediatric allergiest who will do them. my son is proof they do test them that young. not common, but it is done.
Good Luck! be persistant, I had to in the beginning. listen to your heart and what your instincts tell you.

My son (he's 22 months) had this a couple times. The first time, the nurse said it was scabies, so we were all treated, but I was so sure it wasn't scabies because it didn't look like that. Plus, no one at his daycare had it. That was around March. Well, a month ago, he got it again. This time the doctor saw him and said it was NOT scabies (I knew it!) and that it was most likely an allergic reation to something. Now that I think of it, both times it happened when he had a cold with a fever.
The doctor told us to treat the rash with cortaid, or cortizone oinment-not cream- and if it didn't clear up to bring him back. We used the generic brand. Well, the ointment really worked and his skin was clear after about 4 days.
Good luck!

You need to get her tested by an allergist, especially if you already have one child with allergies. Until she gets tested, I would not give her any ibuprofen as this can make hives worse.

My sister went through something like this with her son. She didn't bathe him for 3 days the rash started going away then she only used Dove unscented soap and Aveno lotion. He is still clear of the rash.

Here's wat I can tell you to do. I have been through this with my son. Take one food away that you might think be causing this and see if she still does it. It could be a food that she ate before and had no problems and all of a sudden now she has trouble eating it now. Most common foods that kids are allergic to are strawberries, egg whites, pecans, tomatoes and simple stuff. If you think it could be strawberries give her some and see wat she does after that or whatever food you might think it is. I have been through this so I understand wat you r going through. She has to be 4 or older before they can do an allergy skin test on her. I wish you luck with this. I hoped this helped you.

You really need to take her to see the pediatrician. They can help you figure this out.
