So Parents What Do You Have To Say About Tyra Banks's Sex Survey?

On average, girls are losing their virginity at 15 years of age.

14 percent of teens who are having sex say they’re doing it at school.

52 percent of survey respondents say they do not use protection when having sex.

One in three says she fears having a sexually transmitted disease.

24 percent of teens with STDs say they still have unprotected sex.

One in five girls says she wants to be a teen mom.

About 50 percent acknowledge that they’ve hit someone.

One out of three teens has tried drugs.

Do you think it's now time to switch to a comprehensive sex education program or do you still believe that Abstinence only is the best way to go?

I think that a comprehensive sex education program would be a start but also parents have to be willing to participate. Parents cant leave everything up to the schools. By this I dont mean that parents should preach abstinence and ignore the problem but instead I think they should also learn about sex (many parents are unaware of it themselves) and stds, so they can talk to their kids about it. Open communication between children, the school, and parents is the only way a sex education program can effectively work.

  • I think comprehensive sex education isn't a terrible thing, but as a parent I do prefer abstinence. That is the only 100% fool proof method. I think family values are gone, and that is a big contributor to teenage sex increase. I know it's always happened, and always will--but these statistics weren't that high back when people still acted like families. Not like five strangers living under the same roof.

    Good Luck!!
