Safety at BKK arriving Saturday at 12:05 AM?

I leave Washington, DC or BKK tomorrow at 11:30 AM will arrive BKK Saturday at 12:05 AM. Anything I need to know. Korea Air told me the flight was on schedule.

Problems leaving the airport in a car hire for Pattaya?

Please answer within 16 hours or I will be in transit.

Thanks everyone.

Bob

Update:

Thanks Bob,

Will check into that possibility when If arrive at Seoul. Also, could fly into Pattaya if the airport is closed. Pattaya was the U.S. Air Force Base and can handle any size aircraft.

Update 2:

Thanks everyone, I will post what happened when I arrive. Wish me luck. I have been around the world a few times, and I will be successful this time too.

Update 3:

Korea Airlines just called and my flight has been cancelled.

Wish I could give all a best answer, but I am allowed only one.

Thanks Khun Bob

Thanks Drusalan

I will re-schedule when civil unrest is over.

I really kind of doubt it. From what I hear here, it's going to take some time even when/if PAD leaves the airport for it to be ready to fully operate again. I hear from 24 hours to 3 days here. Maybe want to try to fly into Singapore and get a flight to Phuket then travel by bus.

Quite a few flights to BKK are being diverted to Don Mueang Airport (DMK), the domestic airport in Bangkok. Hopefully yours will be one of them. It doesn't look good for Suvarnabhumi (BKK) as of this morning (Thurs. in Bangkok). Normally it's very easy to get a taxi or car to Pattaya even at the time you're arriving. You can always spend the night in Bangkok and get a taxi or bus the next day. There aren't too many flights into the Pattaya Airport, but they do have flights to there from Phuket and I haven't heard of any flights being diverted there. Good luck.

Edit: Sorry to tell you that the protesters have now shut down Don Mueang Airport this Thurs. AM in Bangkok.

I'm sorry to say that at the present moment, there are no alternatives for BKK. You should at least wait for news or reschedule your flight for better travel experience. I doubt there any possibility for flights to reroute to U Tapao airport except for those last minute emergency rerouting/emergency landings as we have witnessed in the last 24 hours.

I'd take the advice from the other users in here by looking at alternative flights to other regions of the country and get on land transport for Pattaya.

arriving at 12:05 am? do you have the car hire pre arranged? otherwise might be a bit tricky getting a good rate to pattaya at that time. you can try immediately going upstairs from arrivals.. to departures and try bargaining with taxis up there. its will be alot less hectic, and assuming. otherwise.. if you dont mind waiting until the morning to get a company car hire.. suvarnabhumi airport can be interesting.

** ok wait.. i see whats going on here.

"For the time being incoming flights are still arriving, but airport operations have been greatly disrupted."

    should be fine.. and fun...

you can always fly into chiang mai, and take the 11 hr sleeper train ($20-25) to bangkok. then hire a car or bus to pattaya.

Check with the airline pronto, now both airports in BKK closed.

Its going to be extremely rough. They the protesters have not shut down the 2nd airport.

Also the situation in Thailand is getting more tense. If you have already booked your flight, go for it but be prepared for some changes.
