Question For Parents Of Dyslexic Kids.?

I have a child that is almost 9. She is REALLY into animals and especially Lions. She seems to like a lot of toys that are "younger" than her.

She also likes to watch the same movies OVER and OVER. Really. We have NetFlix and she will rent the SAME movies all the time. Anything animal related like any Balto, Air Bud, Milo and Otis....anything like that. She has rented Milo and Otis 25 times this past year.

So I was wondering if other dyslexic kids has "quirks" like this???

Repetition is comfort. I have mild auditory dyslexia and I really found comfort in doing the same thing over and over again. When I was a child I would wear the tapes out on 101 Dalmatians and Lion King.

Does she have a subtype of dislexia or is she all around dyslexic?

There are two sub types that most people fall into, auditory or visual dyslexia. If its auditory She's most likely watching the same movies over and over and over again to form a memory of the movies (and its what she enjoys, which only furthers the idea) and when she has a repetitive memory of it, she's more comfortable- at least thats the way it was with me.

My kids aren't dyslexic but I was when I was a kid and yes I had some little quirks like the ones you described. I played with toys probably longer than most kids and I was really into heavy equipment like bulldozers. I thinks it's normal and shouldn't be taken to seriously. Most kids that are dyslexic become very successful later in life, in fact many experts believe that the majority of CEOs of fortune 500 companies are dyslexic and some the greatest individuals in history were dyslexic like Albert Einstein. In fact if you do some research you'll be shocked at how many rich, famous people are known to be dyslexic. Just remember she learns differently and continue to support her. Dyslexia is more and more being viewed as a benefit than a disability. In case you are curious today I own my own business and I'm a self made millionaire.

Here's a link to a list of famous dyslexics:
