how should I handle a bad situation with my neighbor. She passed out on my couch and peed on it.?
I didn't think anything of it when my neighbor asked if my husband and I wanted to have a couple of beers (and a couple of shots) with her. Her husband is deployed and she doesn't like to drink alone (I totally understand). So we got our drink on. She and I both passed out. My husband didn't drink and decided that he wanted to go early morning fishing and took her son with him. So before he left he told me to go to bed. After I left the couch, she laid down on the couch.
Later on that morning I woke up realizing that my husband wasn't home (I forgot he went fishing) and I went into my living room. There I found no husband, no neighbor, her pajama pants and jacket on my floor next to my couch and a big wet spot on my couch. At first I freaked out, wondering where the hell my husband was. Then I saw his note reminding me where he was. On the same note was her sons note confirming it. When I went to check out her clothes, they smelled like urine, and my couch cushion was soaked. I later took her clothing over too her house but her daughters answered the door and they said she was still sleeping. So I handed them them soiled clothing, not saying anything to them (I know how kids are). But now I have spent the last 4 days shampooing my couch cushion and spraying it with febreze doing the best I can to get rid of the smell.
OMG what can I do. I don't know how to confront her about this. I don't want to be cruel, I'm pretty damn sure she's embarrassed but I'm pissed off and my couch is pissed on.
Any suggestions on how to remove the urine and or how to confront my neighbor about this would help me to get this over with.
Thank you
Army Wife
I actually waited the weekend to say anything because I wanted to wait untill the kids were in school before I said anything. I know kids are cruel, even about thier own parents. So waiting 4 days was kind of being nice.
I think what really made me mad is that she didn't even try to clean it up. She didn't even grab a dirty towel out of the laundry to dry it up. ewwwwww
And to let you know, I ususally don't drink. I'm not a drinker, I think that's why I passed out so quick. I guess this is what I get for drinkin. :(

Take the cushion to be dry cleaned and send her the bill with a note. I know you are mad about the couch and have every right to be. She is probably really embarrassed about it.
My boyfriends friend actually peed on his couch last wednesday. I know how you feel. What is it with people drinking and wetting themselves.

Call an upholstery cleaner to find out if it can even be cleaned. You may never get the smell out comletely.
Then it is up to you whether you want to get her to pay for cleaning/replacement. Confronting her will be embarassing for you both, but that is the only way to solve the problem.

Well, to be honest you did invite her over for drinking, so I can't say it is ENTIRELY her fault. Best to just get it professionally cleaned, and let it go this time. If you make an issue out of it, you might loose your friendship and believe me, it would make life hell having to live with a hostile neighbour. You don't want to be in that situation. However, just don't invite her over for drinking anymore, or if you do drink, go over to her house instead.
She is probably morbidly embarrased anyway, which is punishment enough.

I would not say anything. Continue to clean until you get the smell out. Stop being her drinking buddy, if you're both passing out then you should stay away from alcohol. Invite her over for coffee instead.

Call a professional cleaning company and have them clean the cushion.
I would not confront the neighbor -- she is either very embarrassed or doesn't even remember what happened.
I would not have her over to my house again. No matter what, I'd come up with an excuse.

That's a tough one. Even if you steam clean it, it's not going to get it all out. If you are friendly w/ her, I would definitely say something. It will be tough though since it has been 4 days.

Call professional cleaners (carpets & upholstery) to get some ideas about the cleaning part...
As for her, I wouldn't hesitate in calling her up. Just say, "Jane, you pissed on my couch! Get your butt over here & help me clean this up!"

You may have to have it professionally cleaned. Gently give your neighbor the bill, telling her to pay for it when she has the money.
