I start a new job on Monday, (thankfully) how early is too early to show up for work?

I was thinking I am to report at 8:00 but thought perhaps it might be prudent to arrive 15 minutes early, does that sound like a good idea?

It's not yet possible to show up TOO early, you don't yet know the ebb and flow of your new organization - are you worried about offending them by being prepared? (which seems incongruous) or just worried about seeming uncool?

I highly agree with the poster that suggested getting in sufficiently early to complete normal, required paperwork of W4 and other Personnel type documentation done first so that YOU are ready to work at the ordered time of presentation.

And by the way, showing up on time (on going) is arriving early enough to find the desk, get outer garments put away, use the facilities, and being done the chit-chat, as well as having already finished that coffee - NOT presenting yourself as "ready" to take your break as the first order of the day (on the boss's nickel). If you learn later that it's okay to ibib at your desk, that may be another thing, but why would you present yourself as un-ready on your first day?

In your question you indicated gratitude for starting a new job; well then, show it. Display understanding that there will be extra preparatory paperwork to get the job underway - show up early - with your own pen, your own documents (if you don't remember all your identifying numbers, direct deposit account, tax preferences, etc.), and be ready to to hit the ground running. Be there plenty early... I'd say at least 30 minutes. This is not everyday, this is FIRST day - and if some pedestrian bottom feeder tries to "dis" you about having a Scout mentality (that refers to the motto, "be prepared"), don't buy into it. Smile at the boss, let he or she know that YOU know there's extra stuff to do to begin a job and you are prepared to get it done.

    Good luck to you.

10 -15 minutes early is usually good. I have always tried to be a little early for each of my new jobs. I think it shows that you are ready to work. But then I am generally early for work everyday.

Congratulations! Good luck on the new job!

Sounds perfect. No more than 15 minutes early.

It depends. If you have filled out all the necessary paperwork (tax forms, next of kin - er, emergency contact, etc.), then about 10 minutes should do it (many places don't like you to clock in early since they have to pay you for the time). If you haven't filled out the necessary paperwork, find out where to go for that and when they open and get there a little early so you can do the paperwork and report soonest to your actual place of employment.

15 minutes before 8:00 is fine. That way, you;re there, you aren't rushing around and you will be more relaxed. and ready to go.

    Congratulations and good luck.

no 15 minutes is fine as they will monitor your timekeeping for a while

I would show up at the exact time they stated.

    Good luck!
