Do you need two pecan trees to make pecans?

Do you need to have them cross-pollinating?

Update:

What's with the DUH? Is that not a reasonable question?

Update 2:

Pecan trees are monoecious. That means the male and female flowers are both on one plant. Therefore you do not need to have two plants to pollinate. However, having more that one tree will ensure cross pollination which for some varieties increases fruit viability.

This info from Clemson University seems to imply that you only need one tree but that if the timing isn't the best, you may not get good pollination.

I guess having more than one tree just ups the odds you will be good pollination.

juggy it may be the duh! is not for u.

monoecious means one sex on a plant (one will be male one female), this is not common there are trees but the only monoecious annual i know of is pot (& the americans wanna destroy it - the arrogance).

dioceses plants are by far the most populace plants - nearly all are. they have both male & female parts - so maybe the duh was about this.
