Cuba is in need of a lot of things such as medical supplies and other basics. The best place to get these is the US foreign aid system. Since Cuba nationalized all US holdings in the country and became a communist state it became an enemy of the US. Relations have not been good ever since. Cuba is in need but it needed a more receptive administration to approach first. Now it appears they have opportunity.

It is not just to be friendly. The Cubans want aid, more tourists for foreign money to buy things and to bolster their poor economy and another market (a large one) for their products. When Cuba was open to US citizens there was a lot of investment and tourism there and they lost all that.

Maybe he wont be as bad as his brother, the other Castro, but we wont know until we talk. I still don't trust Cuba's government, but, living in such proximity to that country, it would make sense that we at least try to talk. It has been a long time from the Cuban missile crisis, hopefully, for the sake of the Cubans, things have changed.

I don't know maybe fidel's brother is a little better but I still would not trust them. I have my doubts why would fidel praise Obama? It raises a lot of questions.

I know people who like cigars will be happy if it leads to lifted bans and sanctions.

Mirti he is not lying it has been on the news and was on Yahoo news.

Good. Maybe they can break the ice. The rest of the world trades and communicates with Cuba.

They have so much in common, why not. They are both socialists, and they will get along splendidly.

I don't have a problem with it. Why are people so afraid of the US talking to so called enemy nations? Decades of not talking to these people has not done much.

    We disparately need their cigars.........
