What is so bad about jewish people and why do people hate them?

Okay, this is going to sound like a surprise. It was to me. Christianity is written as a replacement for Judaism. There is much in the NT of Christanity that is easily used by immoral leaders to scapegoat Jews to distract their own people.

Early on it was the Catholic Church that declared "Jews killed Jesus", Deicide is the term, & therefore deserved to die. It goes on from there. Christians weren't allowed to loan money but Jews were & weren't allowed to own land or do much else, so Jews did that, but that didn't earn them any love. The blood libels are another Christian invention. Martin Luther (the reformer who started Protestantism) also got mad at the Jews when he "fixed" the problems with the Church & they still wouldn't convert.

The sagas continues & is very long & diverse. From that implanted the deep hatreds & bigotries. It's improved in the last 30 years, but it's still a major danger to Jews & Judaism & Israel (a lot of the complaints at Israel stunningly parallel classic anti-semitic comments).

This is a huge topic so I'll add some reference sites.

I'd like to add that the Church through Pope John Paul II has officially apologized to the Jewish people & many other denominations followed suite.

A quick read down these answers & several are classic anti-semitic lies. Constantly in YA I see this stuff. The whole "Jews control" is part of the lies.

A clarification...I say NONE of this to "blame" Christianity in the current day, nor Christians. I say it because if the past isn't understood, it can't be put & kept in the past. I am very grateful that you (the asker) stand up for Jews. Righteous people matter hugely in this world to everyone. And Jews have depended on & needed them many a time. Cher has given you important historical background. I'll just add to this that humans seem to have a psychological need to make themselves feel OK about themselves by demonising another group or individual. You see this with playground bullies. And Jews were an easily identified group for many centuries (it's not always so easy today), closely knit and having customs that were different from the (Christian or other) majority, and so were an easy target. This was augmented by the fact that in the middle ages, when so many professions were closed to Jews (as continued well into the 20th century, and still in some ways today), but moneylending was forbidden to Christians and hence - since the Christian rulers were desperately in need of lent money - Jews set themselves up to fulfil the unmet need. Added to all the pre-existing things (as Cher has outlined) this built greater hatred.

People who have sorted themselves out don't need to scapegoat others. But most people have some uneasiness within, and unfortunately such things continue. Thank you for your capacity to stand up for Jews and challenge this offensive stereotyping.

Jews have been law abiding , educated people who have contributed greatly. They also have been involved in many philanthropic efforts.

Yes, they have done well and to some who may struggle and look for scapegoats the Jews have been targets for their hateful feelings. Wish this were not the case.

Like other groups, they too have their bad eggs but again, their contributions are noteworthy.

Jews have values that are not in line with normal values. The Talmud says "Jews can lie", "Jews can steal", etc.. Values we consider criminal, they consider normal. They live in a different reality, a godless, "no saying grace", very secular, imaginary world.

You don't love Jesus cos if you do then you will keep His commandments. That said, why will you hate anyone for killing someone you don't care about? If you do care about Him, He said don't hate anyone. So what exactly is the belief you are following? That of Jesus which says don't hate or that of His opposition which says use any excuse to make war.

This is a very good question and I think Cher has answered it best. I believe it is because Christians believe that the Jews killed Jesus, as evidenced by the treatment my son got when he announced at school that he was Jewish (he's not, he's an atheist). He was called "Jesus killer" and treated with contempt. Maybe the Jews DID kill Jesus, but they were fulfilling prophesy! I also don't get why they hate Judas...without him the prophesy would not have been fulfilled and there would have been no resurrection and no forgiveness.

I do to, so right on! But, the whole reason people do is because of religion mixing in with history, only they ignore a good portion of history. As you know, Judaism existed long before many of the current-day religions; but as for the whole "they killed Jesus", babble bull-crap; What happened, historically, was that during this time the RCE or Roman Catholic Empire, also known as the Holy Empire, Jews were discriminated against and kept poor and in the ghetto, as were many other religions, but a good amount of the people in the area were Jewish. Anyways, when they were given the choice of releasing Jesus or the other man, they were promised money for releasing the other man, and honestly, if you were offered money when you lived in the ghetto and you had families to take care of, wouldn't you choose the money? But people only look at the part where they were choose the other man.

Anyways, all of that caused a spark of ignorant bullshit that people would spat about Jewish people. All of it has to do really with religious wars, sad but true.
