Red poop? Is this normal?

I went out drinking last night, and I did have some red drinks... some of my poop this morning was red and I wonder if that could be why? Is that possible? Is it blood? Kinda scared.

This is a tricky one because alcohol can cause gastritis which can cause red stool (blood in the stool) but some dyes can turn it colors too. How many times was it red? Was it red after that first time this morning or just that once?

If you are having a fever and pain with it, then I'd definitely be concerned though...Keep an eye on it okay?

Finally, several different types of food with natural or artificial coloring may also cause red colored stools. These can include:

    •red gelatin, popsicles, or Kool-Aid

    •tomato juice or soup

    •large amounts beets

Blood in the stool may not always be serious, but it should always be checked by a physician. Any change in bowel habits, such as color, odor, frequency, or consistency (constipation or diarrhea) that does not clear up within a few days is reason to make an appointment with a family practitioner or a gastroenterologst.

When blood in poop is a medical concern, it actually looks black - reed blood in poop is generally not a concern unless there is a lot of it. Food coloring can chance the color of poop. Wait a day or two to see if the red color disappears - food coloring should all be gone in a day or two.

If i were you try to catch some in a clear zip-lock bag and take him to the doctor so he can see if it is blood. My little had red specks in her poop and she had salmonella. If he is pooping blood he needs to be hospitalized immediately. Don't wait. Better be safe than sorry. Good Luck

That question is kind of disgusting but it's totally normal. I'm not yet a professional doc. but usually when you eat or drink something in a different color, the wastes turns that color. There's no reason to be worried.

Since you did have red drinks last night I wouldn't get yourself worried. I would wait to see if it continues in a day or so. If it does then maybe make a doctors appointment.

Just wait for a couple of days to see what happens and if youre very worried and scared go see a doctor.
