Is paper insulation safe for guinea pig bedding?
I have been using Carefresh and my husband thinks that using cellulose which is ground paper is a more economical way of doing bedding. I think it is too dusty. Any input would be great.
Yes I realize that Carefresh, is cellulose bedding, but what my husband bought is really dusty stuff and Carefresh that I have been buying isn't dusty at all.

ground paper should be fine as long as its clean and has no ink on it. as long as you dont mean cellulose like for insulation. i've had several guinea pigs and i've always used wood chips, which can be better because if ppl didnt use them for animals bedding it would probably not have much of a use at all and just get thrown away.

Carefresh, which IS cellulose bedding, is a very good choice for guinea pig bedding. It does have some dust to it, but no more than aspen shavings.
Large amounts of dust contribute to upper respiratory infections in guinea pigs.
If your husband feels it is too dusty, you could try fleece.

The little wood pellet things are awesome. I bought 1 bag about 3 months ago and still have half of it left. You hardly have to use any because it expands. Put some down and hay on top and it's easy to clean up too.

NO, the dust will kill him. Use the recommended bedding sold at most good pet stores, does not cost the earth either.Guineas will nibble on paper, it clogs up in intestine and will give you expensive vet bills

Is this the stuff that they blow into wall cavities in houses? Don't use it. It's treated with chemicals to be fire retardant. They probably won't help your guinea pig much.
