Putting RAM in a computer?
I have a Hp Pavilion 7915 and running 382 MB of RAM, and I was wondering if I can put a 256 MB DDR 266 MHz ram chip in the place of a 128 MB DIMM 133 MHz ram chip. The 256 MB DDR chip is from my old Dell desktop and was wondering if I could put the old one in my working Hp desktop. Please Help!!

Its not looking like you can. Your 7915 uses 133MHz memory. It will not support 266MHz.

Your best bet is to go up to 512 MB of RAM using the PC133 memory. Its really cheap and you will see a big difference in speed.
Also, you could think about upgrading the motherboard. Then you can start using DDR ram.

How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. i think u can't put ddr instead of DIMM. ur system can handle 512 MB of RAM
If u want to upgrade ur memory then listen
1. your computer can handle maximum 512 MB of RAM
2. SDRAM memory with support for SDRAM, PC133 speeds
Because SDR memory is backward-compatible, you can safely upgrade your system with any of the guaranteed-compatible SDR
your each memory slot can hold SDRAM PCI 133 with maximum of 256 of per slot

LOL ^^^
if its both DDR (not one DDR then another DDR 2) then ya should work. Just try it, start the computer (itll say more ram) and then it worked, if not, you can always go back to normal and buy the right stick of ram. Should work though

Ideally, you want all the RAM modules to be the same size, speed, and preferably all by the same manufacturer.
It will most likely work, but the RAM will only run as fast as the slowest stick. 266MHz RAM should work at 133MHz.
I'll give you a link to one of Tweak3d.net's older hardware tutorials if you're not too experienced with SDRAM installation:

This says the max is SDRAM not DDR. DDR won't fit in the memory slots.
Good Luck

I think a ram is too big to fit inside your computer. J.K J.K My best guess is to check your owners manual or call an HP service agent or Visit their web site. Maybe even go into best buy and ask the computer guru. Hope it helps.

open the desktop up and see if theres is a slot available and check if it fits. then all you have to do is put it in and do a good restart.
