Why buy an American car?
http://www.yahoo.com/s/1005448
My last attempt to buy American went like this.
I have driven american since 1984 I drove Ford Explorers since 1994. 3 of them to be exact. I wanted to trade my 2000 sport for a f150.
The Ford dealer would only give me 1800 for my trade. And they would not offer me the 0% finance stating my credit score was not high enough. I knew this was bull. So I went online and looked at the Nissan Frontier. I contacted a dealer via the web and they gave me a ball park figure on my trade and wanted to see it to make the deal. So I went the next day. I got 5000 for my trade and I have a 812 credit score. Ford can Bite me as well as GM for ever buying a car from them again
Hello, Ford has spent the last 20 years moving plants to mexico to save on labor. Has that resulted in lower car prices? Now they are hurting.
Nissan has spent the last 20 years building plants in america. They are doing fine. Union greed and poor products have caused this downturn in the auto industry. I had a 96 SS camaro that could not seem to keep the Intake manifold gasket from leaking So after the 3rd time to a dealer for a "non warranty repair" I sold that car and will never own a GM product agian. I looked at the Colorado pickup when I was buying the Nissan. You cannot compare thoe two the GM is a pos

Exactly, why would they try to bail out companies who make products that nobody wants!? Why pour more money into a bad business plan that has obviously failed?

812 credit?! might god isn't that like perfect score? Hi high do you have to be to get approve then. The bottom line is that all car companies including foreign companies are hurting right now. It is a buyers market. Especially for the american companies which may go bankrupt. The Ford guy just wanted to screw you plain and simple and you did not played hard ball. If you would had call it bull s?**** right then and there the guy would had given you the car almost for free. In order to do this however, you have to do some research. For example, now you have the Nissan deal at hand. You can now go to the ford gy and show him the deal you got elsewhere. This is especially true if you have it in writing. Go with I'm better than the king attitude. Pretty much you are telling them I'm here to buy what I want at the price i want and any hicup in the process means I will leave. Do mention how the government is bailing their sorry butts out and how every vehicle in the lot is an suv and there is no way they will get rid of them. Another alternative to go to a different dealer. Is not ford is that particular dealer.
I bough a car like 2 years ago and they where trying to treat me like a fool. The first sign of trouble was that they did not want to honor their own advertisement in the newspaper which I brough with me. Then, they wanted me to pay way more than the car was worth for 5.5 years or 6 years some B.S. number like that. I said no f-ing way. I got so pissed they actually where concerned. i got the price I wanted withing a dollar. and lowered the loan to 5 years not 6. If they did not want to deal then thats ok, is their right to but, is also my right and yours to look somewhere else. However, do rub in the fact that they are not selling anything. I had another run in with a ford dealership 5 years ago. I wanted to by a focus but the lady did not ant to deal. She kept asking me what can she do to seal the deal. I said, I wanted the optional rims. I think it went from 15" to 16" or maybe even 17". In the brochure it was an option but, not at the dealership. I said, throw in the wheels like it says on the brochure that they themselves game me and I sign the paper right then and there. Nope, they would not budge. So, I left and actually got a nissan. It was better deal. A few days later the lady called me and ask if i had made up my mind. I then proceeded to explain what deal I got from nissan which probably did not made her happy but, so it goes.
Remember, is a buyers market. Take your time and shop you will get what you want. If not go for the nissan because they are giving you the better deal anyways.

Many people share your frustration, and this is how car dealers get a bad name. However, each dealership is different and you have to be careful not to classify a dealership as a representation of the entire company.
It is all based on personal experience, as I can give you an example of a Subaru dealer doing the exact same thing to me as what a Ford dealer did to you. I will never shop at that dealership again and I always tell others not to.
However, I still think Subaru is a good car and would still consider buying one somewhere else.

Sounds like you had a bad experience at 1 Ford dealership. Did you shop around? It doesn't sound like it.
Also, not really getting what the link that you put there has anything to do with your question.
Dealerships are businesses, if you aren't satisfied with one, go to another. I know I've had to stop going to particular dealerships as I wasn't getting the service that I expected.
Where did the GM statement come from anyway? You clearly have been driving Ford products since 1984??

Your problem is with the dealer trying to rip you off. Then more so seems like maybe you tried to buy the advertisement car or some kinda of f150 that might have been on hold for a friend or something to that effect so ya they aren't going to want you to purchase the vehical. Nothing wrong with the vehical itself. As the ford is #1 in towing in its class. I have a f150 and am quite pleased with it. Nothing has gone wrong with the vehical and in the family it has been owned for 4 years. The truck has almost 193000 and still runs like new the triton 5.4L is one of the best engines I driven for a truck and I have driven chevy, toyota, and such.

well, let's see, why buy american.
oh, first, your example has nothing to do with the companies and much to do with the dealership, which by law are independently owned entities and NOT part of FoMoCo... great punishing the american worker there for something not related to them.
1. jobs. over 10% of all the jobs in the US are related to the big 3 automakers.
2. information. vehicles are the second most technical piece of manufacturing done in a country (after airplanes) so technical expertise is necessary to make them. it's also interesting that the correlating issue is that countries which make cars also make the greatest technical advances in other fields. why? they have the expertise available to them.
3. your job. your job will be forfeit should the american companies go under. we just can't sustain that type of economic loss without it creating greater turmoil.
4. the future. without that technical expertise, our best and brightest will move to other countries, like currently theirs move to ours. our higher ed system will become second tier, and people will have to travel overseas to get expertise in cutting edge fields, as they currently do with our education system. basically, losing that capability has the potential to reduce us to a second tier 1st world country, or even a second world country, trying to catch back up to the world.

Its all as much as you however the yank automobile has more suitable plenty over the previous couple of years reliability and thoughts are large. in case you're American then purchase American and help different individuals a minimum of once you purchase GM and Ford the money is spent by American no longer despatched distant places and spent by somebody else.

My friend got a 07 Cobalt coupe & she kept having problems, like windows would not go down, air will go on and off it made a cracking noise whenever she put it on reverse not to mention the RUDE I mean RUDE service we received she end up turning the junk in & she got a Honda Civic no problems so far, not to mention the design inside & out is so much better.
C'mon U don't see Japanese companies going bankrupt do you??
There is a reason for that.
- 1 decade ago
the reason for this is that the american car dealers are going under and they cant offer what they used to. the answer to your question is simply this: there is no reason to buy american vehicles these days. i recommend Toyota
- anntkneeLv 41 decade ago
good point. there is also a good possibility that your nissan frontier is american, however. the problem you have with ford is the dealer as much as the product itself.
