What is the best way to take pictures through a microscope?

At work, I use an Olympus CAmedia C3040zoom camera. When using it through a microscope, it is "helping" me by "fixing" the lighting, which either makes the picture almost all white or awfully dark. It doesn't seem to do it without the microscope. The screen on the back of the camera looks like a perfect shot. How do I turn off this "feature"?

presuming you are stuck with this camera, I suppose tha the expsure controls are taking over or the white balance. Go through the white balance options and select tungsten. Set the exposure mode to manual and just define it yourself.
