So what does anybody think about Obama's recent ....?
declaration that he's going to lay his hand on the Bible that Abraham Lincoln used when he's inaugurated? Isn't this going over the wall just a bit or does he actually think that's going to place him in the glories of Divinity or something?
So glad you all checked in but I'm still waiting for an answer I can pick as the best one!

First, I'd like to see him prove it's Lincoln's Bible.
And why is Lincoln more important to Obama than to me? My ancestors fought in that war - some lost their lives. Obama's absentee father's ancestors were still in Africa. I have more right to it than he does.

I'm not a fan of Obama. I think it's a great idea. I really haven't watched it on any news stories so I don't know if he's being arrogant about it. I simply like tradition and history so it seems like a nice touch to the ceremony.

What about it? Lots of newly elected presidents choose an historic bible for their swearing in. The most "popular" is the Masonic bible from NYC. It's the one Washington used.
The Right have become absolutely addle minded in their hate of Obama.

I don't see why this bothers people. But I think you're misinterpreting it. My first thought was... it's to honor Lincoln's contribution to the achievement of the country's first black(half-black) president being in sworn in
The country's come a hell of a way in 150 years. Even if not everyone is happy about that(according to things I read here).

Considering that the more rabid Conservatives were all spreading the absurd lie that Obama was going to be sworn in on a copy of the Quran, I expect this news would be welcome.
But more specifically, what's wrong with using Lincoln's Bible? He, like Obama, came from Illinois and from humble roots. What's wrong with a little symbolism and a nod to the past?

I think it is nice to use a bible with historic significance in the inauguration. And the fact that Lincoln freed blacks then adds to the significance of this historic event.

Well I guess that destroys the Republican Myth about Obama being Muslim . Other wise I say NICE, Great Wonderful -happy for him. Glad I voted for him .

Lincoln has always inspired him. He refers to him in his speeches sometime. I think it's a nice tribute actually. The first black President being sworn in on the Bible of the person who signed the Emancipation Proclamation. Shows how far we've come, I think.

Just a symbolic gesture, he could have used an old family Bible or one from another inauguration. No ulterior motives.

I believe that because there was doubt about his religious faith.....he wants to do it the historic way to make a bigger impression. It has nothing to do with his personal faith.
