The Catholic Church created this list to explain those sins which were "deadly" to the soul. All of these sins lead to death -

Lust - disease

Gluttony - obesity

Greed - murder

Sloth - decay

Wrath - violence

Pride - suicide

All of these sins are mentioned in the Bible. However, they are not listed in the Bible. (I stand corrected by partymar)

Personally, I think that it's all a twisted way of mind control and to make people feel guilty. All of us have these emotions.

They are not listed in the Bible. They were listed by the 4th century monk Evagrius Ponticus, who listed eight "evil thoughts" as follows (Refoule, 1967): Gluttony; fornication; avarice; sorrow; anger; discouragement; vainglory; pride.

(Proverbs 6:16-19) 16 There are six things that Jehovah does hate; yes, seven are things detestable to his soul: 17 lofty eyes, a false tongue, and hands that are shedding innocent blood, 18 a heart fabricating hurtful schemes, feet that are in a hurry to run to badness, 19 a false witness that launches forth lies, and anyone sending forth contentions among brothers.

Greed, gluttony, jealousy, lust, revenge, vanity and sloth are the seven deadly sins.
