When faced with a question for a particular religion, why do some not follow the guidelines (see below)?
For example, there have been some questions that ask about the Jewish point of view (or any other religion - this is just one example). Many posters rush in and answer with authority - based on THEIR religion!
I know I cannot be alone - when I answer a non-Jewish question, I make sure that the answer is to the POV of the question OR I will clearly state that this is MY POV and offer it as an interesting contrast to the question.
I have my own ideas on this, but would like to survey the R&S community. What are your opinions and what have you observed?
Ideas?
Seeker, you're right. But this question is based on the fact that I've seen questions posted FOR a Jewish POV and some answer with THEIR religion's POV. THAT'S the reason for this question.

It happens to every question related to Wicca or paganism as well.
Christianity's history and theology both support lying in order to convert people, so *some* Christians don't see any problem with lying when they agree to follow the TOS.
Too bad they don't want to discuss the abominations in G-d's sight in Leviticus other than homosexuality. They might be upset if they realized that G-d said "lying lips" were just as bad as men lying with other men.

It is a RARE thing in Yahoo answers when question that begins " What do Jews believe about...." is NOT HIJACKED by people giving very wrong answers that describe Christian belief and NOT what any Jews believe!
This is the most frequent frustrating thing that I have heard all of my fellow Jews of every branch comment about.
Because so many Christians mistakenly believe that Judaism = Christianity without Jesus, and because their New Testament has a passage telling them they're "spiritual Jews", there appear to be many people who feel entitled to say what it is that Jews believe based on Christianity. That wouldn't be nearly so bad IF they would recognize and acknowledge the FACT when Jews explain to them that their notions ABOUT Judaism were mistaken, but they'll often insult and ignore the Jewish answers about Jewish belief and claim they know better what we believe!
In MOST of the instances they're telling what we believe in error, it is almost always a declaration that Jews believe in something that we actually find offensive TO our faith!
I have studied about religions of the world for a long time and often answer questions about other religions, but ONLY with a notice that I am not speaking as an adherent, I am not speaking for adherents and I never use a reference that I did not either obtain FROM an adherent of that belief or research after I found it and inquire of an adherent if it described their faith.
Jews here do NOT mind non-Jews answering questions about Judaism if they answer correctly or at least do not argue with Jews to try to redefine Judaism.. since everyone can make a mistake, anyone answering a question should willing to acknowledge if a mistake made. Indeed, I am connected to Christians, Muslims, Atheists, Pagans and others who I have read and given thumbs ups for many questions about Judaism.
There are simply far too many people here in Y/A who try to answer for Jews and contradict what we say when we are asked directly. That reveals antisemitism.

Surely if someone only wants people of a particular religion to answer, they should post their question in a forum exclusively for that religion.
If the question is interesting to people of other religions, or of none, they're naturally going to want to share their point of view.

Come on now Plushy - don't be silly! Why, didn't you know that Jews don't get to define Judaism any longer?? You see, these days, it's the Evangelical *Christians* posing as 'messianic jews' that get to REdefine Judaism. Why on earth would WE, from generation after generation after generation of Jews, have any say in that at all?!
I mean, after all, as Christianity has been telling us for 2000 years, not only are we 'spiritually ignorant' and 'stubborn' but we also have totally 'misunderstood' our own scriptures!
So why on earth should we have the right to define our own faith?????!
