39 weeks, being induced?

Next Monday my doctor is inducing me at 6 am. I will be 39.1 weeks then. What exactly do they do? She said they would start an IV with pitocin to make me go into labor. Is it possible to go into labor on my own before then. Im dilated to 3cm right now.

Usually they will take you into the delivery room start you wit saline then start you wit a low dose of pitocin. From there depending how you go into labor they will up the dose. Like others have said they might have to use a amniotic hook to break your water which will really start contractions. You can have meds for pain but that is up to you.. Some women like it and some don't want it. But it's common... But yes you can go into labor by yourself alot of women would rather to go naturally. I had to be induced wit my oldest 2 and I am pregnant wit my 3rd.

I was induced with my daughter. They started my pitocin about 7am nothing happened so they upped it and i was able to walk around just had to pull my iv poll along with me. Then about 9 she checked again and still nothing major small contractions but not doing anything. So she upped my pitocin, then again at 930 then again at 10 and 1030. Then at 11 i started getting massive contractions i couldnt move it hurt so bad, so i sat on the birthing ball my hubby rubbed my back. Then I decided to lay in bed... I wouldn't lay in bed it hurt worse just laying there. They broke my water about noon then i had some stadol for pain meds it didn't work I wouldnt recommend it. So i asked for an epidural about 245 because i was at 7cm and not going anywhere and it hurt so by the time the doctor got there to do the epidural i was in sooo much pain. I curled up in fetal position and they couldnt get the darn thing in lol. So by the time he got done trying about 10 times i had relaxed enough and was ready to start pushing. I started pushing about 350 or so and had my daughter at 404pm. It wouldn't have been bad if I had some pain meds that actually worked but they didn't. I am due again in August and I will let them induce me again if needed i won't fight it. I will also ask for an epidural as soon as I can so maybe they can get it in this time who knows. Everyone is different so don't let my experienc worry you. Good luck and enjoy your little baby when he or she is born! Also, try walking alot, my friend she sat on a birthing ball or a yoga ball to help the baby move down and she went into labor early with all her kids. I am going to try that this time

it's possible you could go into labor, but i personally don't believe there's anything you can do to make it happen before it's going to happen on it's own. is there a reason they're inducing you? is the baby really large? i fought off being induced with both of my kids - they scheduled me to be induced with my first at 40 wks, 10 days...even though i was still fighting it. i got lucky - the hospital was full so i got postponed til the next day. they were still full so they pushed it back again, and then i went into labor on my own. i had a drug free 1st baby, 8 lb, 3.5oz, and labor was under 2 hours. there's no way things would have gone that way if they induced me.

basically when they induce they will sit you on a monitor and start an iv. you'll be stuck on monitor for a while...but if nothing happens they might let you get up and try to walk around and stir things up a bit before they up the iv. you could also ask to have your water broken first. sometimes that's enough to start it. it's painful but if you'd rather avoid drugs it's an option.... the drugs can really alter the way your birth plays out and it can make it so much harder to avoid pain meds if that was your plan. good luck!

Its very possible, but they are just preparing just in case you don't. I've been induced all three times. My first 2 they had to because my water didn't break it just ruptured and they didn't want an infection happening for me or the baby. My last was a week late.

I would just do a lot of walking and see what you can do. For me being induced wasn't that bad, but I don't know any other way than that. Good luck and congrats.

I was induced with my first, but had started to labor on my own. They started pitocin and contractions got stronger and I progressed. It is possible that you will go into labor on your own, but you can stay at that dialation for weeks. If you want to get going soon, take a long walk and see what happens. Congrats on your baby!

They will give you an iv with the petocin first......then if your water does not break they will break it with a crochet hook like device. It will run its course........they will let you dilate and then come in and start delivering. If you are getting a epidural they will put it in as your labor progresses! You won't get food or anything so eat up! As far as you having the baby before....anything is possible! Thats in someone elses hands
