Why does Bart Simpson call his dad Homer sometimes?

I was just watching the Simpsons and Bart was talking to his Dad.

Instead of saying "Thanks Dad" he said "Thanks Homer"

If Homer is his Dad then why call him by his christian name and not just call him DAD???

Just wondering!!!

It's an on going joke, showing Bart actually being quite rude by calling his Dad by his first name. We get a laugh out of it because it isn't very usual, and Bart has the audacity to call him that and Homer doesn't even care!

My god, a lot of people don't seem to understand the simple joke here do they?

Of course he's Bart's real dad, and barely anyone calls their parents by their Christian name. Eugh. Pay no attention to the idiots saying that.

It's a Joke. From a CARTOON. It's meant to be funny.

    NOT a debate.

    Dear me...

I do love the epidsode when Maggie calls Homer daddy I find that really sweet lol Bart probably calls him homer because he doesn't feel like he has the dad role and has no respect for homer because of this x

It's an ongoing joke since the episode "Lisa's First Word" (Season 4). Bart and Lisa called Marge "mom" and Homer "Homer". Maggie's first word in the episode was "daddy". Bart kept on doing that even when he was older.

I think it's just to signify that Bart doesn't have alot of respect and doesn't look up to Homer. But then again some kids do call their parents (real biological ones) by their Christian names

  • This is , in fact, a subject of one episode. In the end, Maggie calls Homer 'Daddie', but only after he has turned the light out and shut the door.

Bart Simpson is meant to be a delinquent, it's to show disrespect.

Lots of kids do that nowadays. In fact they call their parents far worse things :-)

In the Simpsons they just exaggerate real life.
