Replacing my rugs for Laminate throughout entire house Including Kitchen?

Would it be weird to have Natural cherry Laminate in my kitchen and Laundry room? My house is an open floor plan. Meaning that the living room runs into the kitchen ., I spoke to a flooring man yesterday and he said that i could run the flooring straight to the garage door which is through the Kit &LR. I wanted Tile in the Bath's and Kit. But it is very pricey and the up keep is lengthy. The reason why I ask is because my House is currently on the market. (no one is looking) This is a FL home. The reason for the upgrade is that the rug is stained. It can't be fixed. Needs to be replaced. Ive thought bout more rug. But being that it is FL it is so HOT here that wood flooring would be cooler.& easier to clean!

Any idea's on if a laminate would be good in a kitchen or is it totally weird? Everyone else has tile in the kitchen?

Won t look weird at all. Your open plan the flooring will flow naturally thru out. Cherry is a different and very nice look to it. GL

We just did that this summer. We tore out our old carpet and linoleum, entire main floor of our house. We installed laminate floor, light wood. I love it! The house smells cleaner, looks fresher, more modern. We also have our house on the market and have gotten really nice feedback about the floors. We have it in our kitchen, too. I broke with convention and put a 5 X 7 rug in the middle of the kitchen. My husband didn't think it would be a good idea, but now he loves it.

If you go with laminate floor you will probably want to get some area rugs. We noticed a lot of echo in every room. Rugs add warmth and help with sound. A great place to find nice rugs is at Sears in their clearance area. Much, much cheaper (and nicer) than those at Lowes, Wal-mart, or Pier One.

The box of Laminate actually says on it- Not for Laundry Rooms or Bathrooms and Kitchens. Basically any room that involves water.

My friend didn't listen and still did it- it's all buckling and looks terrible. You have to remember you can't get laminate wet at all! If you spill something it gets underneath the boards and buckles. You would be much better off getting vinyl that looks like tile- we have it in the bathroom, it's very nice. It would also be a lot cheaper for you. I personally would NOT buy a house if I saw laminate in those areas because I know it would have to be replaced. Our laminate is not even 2 years old and it starting to get worn- I know your selling but if it's a slow sale and your living there- it's going to get a lot of wear and tear on it quickly.

This is done frequently. There are many colors of laminate flooring and species available as well. It should not be difficult to find one that will coordinate well with the wood floor. At the doorway, you will use a t-molding to transition from the wood to the laminate flooring. Purchasing a 12mm floor which is the thickest laminate floor that you can find to make the transition from the wood in the kitchen a similar height. The thicker laminate floors also sound more like real wood. A handscraped laminate floor with a micro bevel edge (in a 12 mm thickness) is the newest development in laminate floors and actually look like real wood which should be your goal here.

The only draw back to laminate in kitchens and laundry rooms is the fact that laminate will not tolerate water spills or leaks. The substrate will swell and come apart.

My neighbor had a leak from her dish washer. It essentially ruined her laminate floor in the kitchen and had to be replaced. It was not covered by insurance.

I honestly believe that it would be a great idea to replace the whole flooring with the laminate, it will all tie the rooms together , and you will feel cleaner without the carpet . I have seen laminate in the kitchen and it look very nice and cozy .

Lot's of people have wood flooring in their kitchen, laundry and even bathrooms and with an open floor plan one flooring type will create a great flow and creates the illusion of the home being larger.
