Which Walt Disney World Resort is the best to stay at?

Dad has decided that we're going to take an impromptu trip to Walt Disney World and I've never been, and my parents haven't been in over 25 years (before I was born). Which is the best value to stay at location and accomodation wise?

I hate it when people do this but go to Disney.com. They have a lot of deals you can find out on that site. Also pictures of the rooms and hotels that they own. You can actually stay right at Walt Disney Village quite reasonably if you check around! Have a great time.

The best places location wise, are those that are on the monorail. The Disney bus system is known for taking quite a long time, so the monorail guarantees no bus waits, and no need to rent a car. However, with that comes the most expense.

These three resorts are The Contemporary, The Polynesian & The Grand Floridian. Expect to spend between $3000-$5000 at least for a week at one of those.

I personally think that location & transportation are key and can make or break your trip. I like staying at the Boardwalk Inn, which is considered a deluxe but isn't as expensive as the monorail resorts. You can walk to Epcot or Hollywood Studios, and get on the monorail in Epcot to go to Magic Kingdom. That is costing me around $1800 for week this May. I did book the current special Disney has going - 4 nights for the price of 7. They may still be offering it, if you book very soon.

If you want to do deluxe, I recommend avoiding Wilderness Lodge & Animal Kingdom since neither are in walking distance to a park or monorail, but hold the deluxe cost.

If you're willing to wait for buses, you can take a dramatic cost cut. If you choose to do that, either of the Port Orleans resorts are the way to go. You can take a quick ferry to Downtown Disney which is nice, and the theming here is fantastic. Riverside is a little quieter than French Quarters, but both are great.

If you want the lowest price hotel, choose Pop Century over the All Star resorts. The reason for this is that Pop has it's own bus system, while the All Star resorts share buses between all three resorts. You will wait less for the bus at Pop Century. Still though, the value resorts are the worst location-wise.

All in all, the monorail resorts are extremely expensive. The value resorts are cheap, but will be time consuming to get to locations. My best opinion is to stay at the Boardwalk Inn or Beach & Yacht Club. Book through AAA, you will get a very helpful discount.

By value I'm not sure if you mean best bang for your buck or cheapest so I'll just cover both. Best bang for your buck if you don't mind spending it would be any of the Deluxe Resorts, especially the ones on the Monorail line (Polynesian, Contemporary, Grand Floridian) These are top of the line hotels with the convenience of being on the Monorail line and closest to the Magic Kingdom. A price below the Deluxe Resorts are the Moderates, though not on the Monorail line there is still free Disney transportation, restaurants, basically everything the Deluxe Resorts have but less money. The cheapest resorts at Disneyworld are the Value Resorts, they have fun themes (Pop Century, Sports, etc..) There is cafeteria style dining instead of restaurants but still the great Disney service and free transportation. So if you're looking to save money a Value Resort is the way to go.

I agree with what most folks have written already. But the only thing you do in your room is sleep most of the time. Pop Century is my favorite one, I have stayed at Fort Wilderness, Contemporary, Port Orleans, Boardwalk, All Star Music Sports and Movies, Coronado, Pop Century and a few others. With the buses running the way they do, and some knowledge of how the monorail runs, I can not see spending the money on the moderate resorts or the deluxe resorts. Don't get me wrong they are very nice resorts, but you pay so much money to get into the parks, why pay $300 a night for a hotel too??

If you are looking for the best resort for the money, my family always stays at Coronado Springs. It is not as pricey as the deluxe resorts, but still offers alot of conveniences. It has a large theme pool, but also smaller (quiet) pools around the resort. It also offers bus transportation to all of the Disney parks and Downtown Disney. If you check out the disney website be sure to look at all the information about Coronado Springs.

I Stayed at the Coronado springs resort and it is amazing. The restauraunt was overpriced but he hotel is beautiful. It isa mexican themed resort with 4 room locations. The hotel is built around a lake. the lake is the center of the hotel and the rooms are around it. Nights are about 150 dollars for 2 full beds. The lake has a path around it where you can go biking or jog. If you did't bring a bike you can rent one there. You can also rent a boat and go fishing. Each of the 4 room areas have a private pool for guests staying in that section. We stayed in the casitas section which had a small pool and was next to the hotels main pool with the waterslide. The hotel has a barbershop, grocerystore, 2 restaurants, 5 pool, a gym, and a spa. Around the lake their is beach sand to and their are free hammocks to lay on. Since the lake area is so big their are workers on golf carts that drive people who don't want to walk around the lake.

I think to fully answer your question, which was combining value and also the best all around... I've been told the "Moderate" price resorts... found on Disney.com are the best, the "value" are a little too low end! I have a friend that says the Port Orleans Riverside or Port Orleans french quarter are the very best... they've been going every single year for 4 years & recommended it to us... we're gonna stay there in Jan!!! Good luck & have fun... by the way, I from Barton as well (tri sigma)

For convenience, the deluxe resorts inside the parks are the best. For the money, the moderate resorts are very nice.
