Do global warming "skeptics" think it's caused by some magical interstellar force?

In a recent question, somebody suggested it was "truth" that global warming "is mainly caused by changes in space"

The reactions from some prominent "skeptics" were

"The truth is inconvenient."

"People don't want to hear the truth."

"Because they can't manipulate governments with the truth!"

In other words, they seem to agree that global warming is being caused by some mysterious intergalactic force. Is this true? Is this force perhaps a religious deity?

Update:

Wow 9 stars and as many as 37 thumbs. As LRG noted, this question seems to have struck a nerve.

their delusion is simple: human activity cannot be the cause nor can it have an other than negligible impact on the climate, unless of course the impact it is having is a good one, such as longer growing seasons.

Human activity cannot be to blame so it must be solar, interstellar, geothermal, cyclic, ect. regardless of any evidence.

everyday this year can be freezing and that doesnt mean a thing. overall the climate of the entire globe is warming. it is warming at a rate that animals and humans will not be able to keep up with. as you know the arctic is melting, and when it does, probably not this generation but maybe the next and deffinately the one after. the sea levels will rise causing japan, other islands, and the costlines to be under water. and thats only 1 out of many many problems it will cause.

Apart from the obvious vote rigging you have triggered the problem is both a lack of understanding of science and exaggeration of minor facts this for example

"Mars's warming and cooling has followed right along with ours as has every other solar-system object"

Anyone who actually bothers to do real research and not just take the word of sites like 'watts' would find this statement is fiction the only reported evidence of Mars warming is (over just the last few years) a reduction is the southern CO2 polar cap (there could be a number of reason for this) and "every other solar-system object" warming is simple false.

The Sun has not increased its output in the period of satellite monitoring, deniers can rant all they want and have as many I.Ds as they want. Solar output for the last 30 years is not the cause, this is simple a fact it doesn't require trust in computer models or Al Gore or Faith it is directly recorded data.

And the unusually high thumbs up on the denier side of this seem to have died out after the first couple of hours hmmm!

The IPCC AR4 report states the earths climate appears to be driven naturally by solar forcing (and the relative feedbacks and volcanic activity), this covers a number of theories, some to do with the mass of our galaxy, our path through it and solar winds - are these the galactic forces you refer to? Most are well documented and well accepted as factors in climate change so whats the problem?

The IPCC AR4 states that the understanding of these is poor and no comprehensive explanation has yet been found for natural climate change (hence there is no way to assess mans effect) so any such theory can not be dismissed.

John Christy's up and coming paper on cloud feedbacks will represent the most indepth assessment of could feedbacks to date and will show clouds have a net cooling effect, giving a low climate sensitivity (as is observed). This further supports the Svensmark theory which you glass as a "galactic force".

“Changes in space" huh? Very interesting.

Well I suppose if the space they are referring to extends from the surface of the earth to the top of the homosphere, particularly the lower portion. Then if the changes they are talking about are the changes in the chemical composition of the atmosphere since the dawning of the industrial age, with an increase of CO2 due to human activity like agriculture or deforestation, plus burning huge quantities of fossil fuels. Then I suppose you'd have to say they are right.

But then again, when has a denier ever been right? They therefore must be referring to space beyond the earth's atmosphere and a wacky idea that only a denier could invent. Ah Dana the silliness of the deniers never fails to entertain.

I hate to break it to you but cosmic rays aren't magic. They might be inconvenient to you but they do exist. It is amazing how desperately you cling to your religious doomsday cult tying to make CO2 into your Satan That actually follows since CO2 is the most vital gas for the formation of all carbon used by life on the planet. I am sure you would have no problem with it if you could figure out an a way to blame it on humans. It is truly hard to believe that anyone is ignorant enough to not know what cosmic rays are. That is like 5th grade level science.

I notice you never respond to the people that have legitimate doubt based on the junk science use to arrive at many of the conclusions that the alarmists arrive at to insure their continued employment. Instead you always focus on one or two minor points that get brought up that you think show flawed logic. Even then you ignore their underlying points and just pretend you are addressing idiots. This common condescending attitude that the "chicken littles" in your camp keep using is the biggest weapon against you. Any real facts that you chose not to agree with you just laugh off as being paid for by big oil or take it out of context in a way the writer never intended it to be taken.

If you want to be taken seriously then get all the "scientists" that support the global warming con job to actually defend their position before a panel that doesn't just automatically agree with them. The debate isn't over it was never allowed.

hmm this may come as a bit of a surprise to you but the earth does NOT generate heat.... ALL of the energy coming into the earth comes from "magical interstellar force"...

generally there are three of em <we know of>

normal suns energy due to it's radiation

    cosmic rays

sunspots (still sun radiation but this isn't normal)

of those sunspots and cosmic rays have been VERY high recently (last decade or so)

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i guess my biggest problem with global warming fanatics is they say they KNOW what the temperature will be 100 years from now if nothing changes.. hmmm hate to tell ya this my weather man can't tell me the temp reliably for NEXT WEEK... no WAY you can predict 100 years...

you are trying to say we understand something completely when we don't

    The sun is in space

Mars's warming and cooling has followed right along with ours as has every other solar-system object for which we have good data.

You thought that was from all the interplanetary Hummer H2s huh?

You might want to bring the Master of Science degree back to Wall Mart and get it exchanged for something usefull. Believe it not, the climate has fluctuated over time and it wasn't driven by CO2. I suspect that the recent low numbers of sunspots correspond to changes in the sun that are primarily responsible for the recent cooling period. You seem to favor a theory that a magical gas is somehow suddenly driving the climate. Get a clue and get a real degree.

The earth goes through natural cooling and warming periods. If you were old enough to remember (like me) you would know that these same "scientists" were warning us back in the 70's that pollution was causing the earth to cool and would bring on another ice age.
