What can we do to stop religious violence?
I know you religious lot, don't think its religion's fault, which is silly, but for everyone else.
What do you feel is the most effective way of stopping continual religious violence?
I am with you Nothing I hate all violence too. However religious violence is specifically insipid, because it takes normally good people and causes them to accept and even participate in it. Why are you intent on defending violence? Nature of God?
True Colors, Reading through my question again, I can't find the part where I suggested non religious violence was OK? What drives you to make that accusation? Religion? By your logic, we should allow all violence.....
Once again, religion causes normally good people to hurt one another, because they are convinced that it is athe will of God, and God doesn't bother to clear it up for them.
Soldier4 - Once again never made the claim that all violence was spawned by religion....what question are you readin igit? Why defend religious violence? Can't you see that yor stance is immoral?
steel the rain - WHat is Jesus the Christ planning on doing with a majority of humanity at the end of time? Hint' its the opitome of violence.
Time Kitteh: the 'its human nature' notion is a religious one. A VAST majority of humans don't particpate in murder or violence. Some do, but it is typically because they are motivated by irrationality and overcome with emotion. Showing that the nature of man is typically peaceful, which is why religion, nationality, greed and seperation ideology are harmful.

Get rid of religion. (And how to do that? Through education)

Religious violence stopped a long time ago, with a few minor and insignificant exceptions. What would be more important would be to educate people to the fact that what many think of as religiously motivated violence is not that at all, but politically motivated instead. That's a difficult task, since propaganda implying that violence is religiously motivated is used by the people who cause it in the first place to draw attention away from themselves.

Never happen. So long as different religions insist that they and only they are the "true" religion, there will always be conflict and that conflict will eventually lead to violence by one side or another.
Contrary to all the lip service here, NO religion is above using violence. Christianity and Islam, are the biggest and most frequent offenders, but they will forever insist that they are both religions of peace.

It doesn't help to get caught up in the religious aspects that many people attribute to a situation. Look at the underlying political realities and work on those.
There is legitimate historical and political reason for the existence of a Jewish state in the Middle East. Can you think of a better location than a sparsely-inhabited Ottoman backwater? That's exactly what the region was in the 19th century.
Yet somehow, because Christians go on and on about the Holy Land, the right of Israel to exist is in question? Do you honestly think that makes sense? I had thought better of you, Cheesemaker.

at what point to you define a sect or religion as that--religion? I mean, like what you see in Darfur---genocide for religion, Iran---killing of one that changes "religion" which is based on the teaching of their prophet, Israel and Palestine (one protecting its right to exist -even if this was not a religious state while the other seeks the destruction of another; a Pentecostal using the teaching of Jesus--the best and only true man of God; are these equals when you define religion or religious violence?) I think you need to set a measure of what if right and not but do not judge every religion as being violent for my belief in God means to share the truth even if you seriously hate what my belief stands for I have never or anyone of the Pentecostal or other religions that hold on to God---Jehovah at their God attacking you with death or violence; the message might not be to your liking but that is your opinion--to hate religion and those that believe in this. Pentecostal, Baptist, Catholics and such have never been killing--decapitating to force other to believe so please don't set these and such on the same definition of religion and violence (the past it the past so look to the future)

Most religious violence comes from ignorant and close minded people. I'm an Atheist but i don't criticize people because they believe in God. If you think your religion is right, that's fine, but respect other people's views. People need to stop cramming their beliefs down other people's throat! I try to be respectful about religion but when someone tells me i'm going to hell because i don't beleive in the same thing as them, it pisses me off. Want to stop the violence? Convince people to think before they speak.

Religious violence, like gang violence or any other. It is and has always been a part of the human condition. It will never go away. Glad to help.

You may be waiting a long time for this since hate is the very core of religious faith. But as education becomes the norm, then we are going to see a lot of people realizing that religion is only a fairy tale.

You know that guns kill, so regulate the guns. If religions create religious violence, throw away the religions. You formulate laws to prohibit any body from propagating religions. I mean preaching.

You can pull your head out of your butt and realize that violence isn't caused by religion, even though it is sometimes fuelled by it The fact of the matter is that if religion didn't exist people would still be killing each other over money, politics, etc. so your idiotic little assumptions about how religion is evil, causes all wars, blah blah blah are just that; idiotic.

You'll never stop it, but a good start would be putting the violent ones in jail, where they can live among their own kind. Religion is HUGE in prison, especially Christianity, because it relieves the criminal's guilt when they hear someone died to excuse their behavior.
