Why don't people just use a search engine for their answers?

About 30% of all YA questions can be answered by using Google or another search engine. Since it takes longer to type a question than just look themselves, what is the benefit they are trying to accomplish?

Update:

I am talking about fact based questions, ones like "how many people live in Idaho" or "why is the sky blue".

Most people ask questions NOT because they are actually looking for knowledge or seeking facts but because they are lonely and/or bored. They want to be amused by what other people write. Some may even hope to find new friends here.

Yes some fact question like the definition of segue are easy to find on a search engine but some question like personal help question or opinion questions like if someone needs help with fixing there house are hard to find on google. It also helps people understand things better and ask more specialized questions.

If you looked it up (if you could and it were available) it wouldn't be half the fun of hearing what others think about a subject. There is also the thing about the social interaction. The people who regularly participate in "ANSWERS" seem to be like a little loosely knit group or club if you would.I just think it's more of a social, fun thing than strictly informational.

Source(s): personal opinion ,something else you can't get from search engines.

why dont you ask a search engine? lol :) =]

because search engines dont always provide the answers to the questions we have and people who are experienced try to help others its a society thing where people help each other out :)

If you where experienced in something wouldn't you want to help someone by passing down your knowledge?
