Why are creationists are willfully ignorant about evolution?

One would think that they'd want to know as much as possible about the thing they criticize. Yet they never show even a little knowledge about what evolution is or does.

Update:

And the answers from the creationists just proved my point. All I got from them was parroting, blatant lies, and ad hominem attacks.

At least I can compose a proper sentence. The ape you think you came from must not have been the sharpest tool in the shed.

Edit- no, you got a little attack from me because in your blind obedience to everything that science feeds to you there's no point in me trying to get you to believe in something that you can't see.

This will be one of the million arguments of religion that will continue to go on and on and on and on . . . etc. I will admit my ignorance that I did not know what creationism was - so I had to look it up. After reading the definition of what Creationists believe, I have come up with my opinion - I agree with evolution.

Science vs. religion is something that I know personally about as I'm continuously trying to balance the two into a nice, comfy co-existant existance, however, each side has one on many occasions over time. But anyhow, evolution is very real and I don't understand - but do in a psychological way - as to why people will not accept this. Fear.

The bible was written to try to explain the unexplainable and to establish rules and order in a specific time period.

Dinosaurs obviously were not discovered during those premitive times. If they would have been I am sure they would have had some miraculous story involving them and trying to explain what they could not gather based on technoligy at the time. (kind of like how we got here= let there be life) you get the point

Hmm.... I think that people are willfully ignorant about creationists to lump them all together...

I am willfully ignorant on biological evolution becuase I detest biology... I am more of an earth science geek....

ADD: "All I got from them was parroting, blatant lies, and ad hominem attacks.".... hmmm... obviously you didn't read my post? You are generalizing here... and I told you why I (personally) am willfully ignorant on biology.... I don't like to study the subject matter... :/

It's kind of like wanting to have books, they have never read, banned...

or any number of other things they find objectionable on the surface...

They just feel they are the moral compass for the world...

    They don't want to.

They have been told by an authority figure they trust it is wrong. They then simply latch on to the creationist industry's (and that's what it is, a money making industry) lies since they "confirm" their beliefs.

    Their god demands it.

Or, at least those who are willfully ignorant believe he does.

Not in so many words of course. It doesn't say in the bible "Be ewillfully ignborant of evolution", but it might as well.

Joseph Priestly Refused to think of Oxygen as anything but dephlogisticated air and refused to give consideration to the chemical revolution.

We dont realize that its possible to be an evolutionist christian.

    They're weird, huh?

I despise most religions - I had to learn about them to make sure I was despising them for the right reason.

I am; they're all scams trading on FEAR of invisible sky critters.

Because willful ignorance stops rational thought in its tracks. Makes it utterly impossible to proceed with an argument, and therefore impossible to win an argument with a creationist.

I really have no idea to be honest, at least atheists have read the bible before they criticise it. Not one of them has shown any knowledge about evolution and their arguments are based off straw men.
