Who should open the Sri Lankan innings with Jayasuriya in ODIs?

There were several experiments during last year with Sangakkara, Mahela Udawatta, Upul Tharanga, Dilshan and Malinda Warnapura but anyone couldn't perform consistently. Also most of them struggled to score quickly because lack of range of shots except Sangakkara. But Sangakkara is the appropriate man for NO 03. Therefore Sri Lanka must find a new one to perform well in this year.

Malinda Warnapura and Jayasuriya. Warnapura is the man to open, he's perfect for the job. He's shown a good attitude, temperament and skill the last time i watched him play. Mahela Udawatta is another player who i think could replace Jayasuriya, nowhere near the same as Sanath of course but he's a good opener, and Sanath is getting older so i think Sri Lanka also need to start preparing a replacement for Sanath.

I don't think Sri Lanka should keep persisting with Upul Tharanga, he was doing pretty well before the CB series and then he was dropped for what i believe was a dressing room issue, unless he shows some real effort to get back in the team he should be overlooked, Sri Lanka have given him more than enough chances to cement his place in the team.

It should be Upul Tharanga as he has shown the most promise in the opening position and he and Jayasuriya have batted well together before (vs England at Headingley).

Sangakkara should have a go at opening. He's played 21 games as an opener and scored 823 runs, including 4 of his 10 ODI centuries. He's clearly capable of batting there.

They could then put Jayawardene at number three, since he's played there before. Statistically, it also happens to be his best position. He averages nearly 40 batting there, whereas his actual batting average is just under 33.

They should give Warnapura another chance in the ODIs. He has really proven himself in the test arena and has been pretty handy for the Lankans in the past 6 months or so.

Other than Warnapura, I think Tharanga can do a good job too.

I think that Upul Tharanga should be the opener. No worth chopping and changing, keep players the same and let them get used to their role in the team.

Tharanga is a better partner for Jayasuriya. He can hit the ball hard.

    Michael Vandort

Capable batsmen, solid technique and a very good hitter of the ball. He has proven himself as a very capable opener, as he showed against England in 2006, that he can pulverize attacks. Him and Jayasuriya unleashed against England and they are quite capable of doing that again.

Jayawardena and Sangakarra shouldn't open as they should be protected.

I still feel that Upal Tharanga should open with Jayasuriya.
