Israel versus Gaza--Who is to blame?

I came across this today. What are your thoughts on it?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A recent statistical analysis by three academics (one at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, one at Harvard and one from Tel Aviv University) found that an overwhelming majority of lulls in violence since 2000 (when the second intifada began) ended when Israelis killed Palestinians, sparking renewed tit-for-tat violence. According to Nancy Kanwisher, Johannes Haushofer and Anat Biletzki, "79 percent of all conflict pauses were interrupted when Israel killed a Palestinian, while only 8 percent were interrupted by Palestinian attacks." The pattern was "more pronounced for longer conflict pauses. ... Of the 25 periods of nonviolence lasting longer than a week, Israel unilaterally interrupted 24, or 96 percent."

Update:

Thanks for all the Answers. I understand that there is a lot of material out there, but I am seeking answers specifically in context of the independent studies conducted by the three Universities mentioned. i.e. what triggered the violence more often--Israelis killing Palestinians or Palestinians killing Israelis?

Thanks.

The blame rests with the Arabic community and not for condemning the Israeli state but for making their fellow Arabs (the Palestinians) into refugees than creating the issue to begin with. Had they (the Palestinians) been welcomed into Jordan, Labia, Syria, Egypt, and Lebanon w/open arms and treated truly like brothers there wouldn't be as much of an issue. Regretfully the Islamic states mentioned regardless of any secular govt in place can't put aside the religious differences and live ALONG with the JEWS in peace.

    Hamas is to blame!!

In 2005, Israel gave the Gaza strip to the Palestinian people as a form of peace and sympathy with them. The Hamas government took over the region. Hamas proudly declares that its main motive is to destroy Israel and does not recognize Israel's existence. Ironic considering Israel gave them Gaza. Since 2005, Hamas and the Palestinian people have sent over 6000 rockets into Israeli towns such as Sderot, Netivot, Ashkelon and Be'er Sheva. After 3 years of daily mental and physical torture for Israelis, Israel decided to go into Gaza and attempt to minimize Hamas' power by destroying missile storehouses (mosques, schools, apartments) and killing Hamas militants responsible for the daily attacks. You must also understand that Hamas uses women and children as human shields. Many times when the Israel Defence Forces warns the Palestinian civilians to leave a certain mosque or building because they want to destroy its missiles, Hamas forces Palestinian civilians to stay in hopes that Israel will have pity on them and forget their plan. Sometimes it works but often, Israel has no choice. Right now, Egypt is a huge problem because for the past 3 years, they have smuggled in quassam rockets through the Egypt-Gaza border to aid Hamas.

I encourage you to keep up to date on the current situation by checking jerusalempost.com and haaretz.com

    Thanks!

he's impressive. the entire killed over the final 8 years of missile launching into southern Israel is around 14. Did the Gazan human beings should be punished so critically? I say no. there have been different tips about the thank you to get rid of the Hamas management. Israel is #a million interior the international interior the paintings of assassination. they have killed many Palestinian terrorists without their populus incurring any collateral injury. There could desire to have been some style of economic motives (retaining the bomb production facility open with a view to top off furnish), for Israel to take such extreme action against innocents.

LOL. You forget that there was no lull in the violence. 8,000 rockets, as well as murdered and maimed Israelis and ruined homes in no way translates to a lack of violence; it's just one-sided violence, with Israel taking the blows and the terrorists giving them.

BTW, the Israeli Universities are overwhelmingly leftist (shocker, I know), and are full of Israel haters (no hyperbole -- people who say Israel should be destroyed, given to muslim nations, etc.), so, just because something comes from there, don't assume it's an unbiased source.

You're basing everything on the TIMING of the deaths?

Excuse me, but I'm a little more interested in the REASONS for the killings. Muslim terrorists kill because they want to destroy Israel (genocide). Israel kills because Muslim terrorists want to destroy Israel. I'm sensing a pattern.

If Israel stops killing Arabs, there will be lots more murdered Jews. But if the Arabs stop killing Israelis, there will be peace and prosperity. Logic. Not some weird COLLEGE study of TIMING PATTERNS.

    Both

Very rarely is one side totally at fault. Whether it be a traffic accident or an international, armed conflict, both sides generally contribute to the hostilities in some way.

I think that this war was bound to happen.....Those that say that its Israel's fault, did you know how many innocent Israelis have been killed by terrorist attacks....Im glad that Israel is taking a stand, even though people are being killed

This is a good study, and no one can call it biased if it includes Tel Aviv University. Thanks, it definitely confirms the truth about the conflict.
