How can I change the way my dog freaks out?
My dog freaks out on walks when we come across people or other dogs. In a way I think he is trying to protect but then I think he is just a bully. It does not matter what kind of other dog it is he just starts. How can I begin to change it? What should I do?

When somebody is in your path, have your dog sit. Give him a treat. If he sits quietly, his attention on you, give him more treats. Obviously it'll take practice. If he freaks out more, make him lie down and stay. Keep practicing.

You don't have control of your dog if he's not AT your side under your control. Work on leash training--he should be in collar and leash and within 8" of your left leg. If he's moving forward or sideways, pull him back and put him into a sit position and keep him there till the others have passed by.
If he snapps at anyone while on leash, you're still at fault. You need to make sure he's not 'freaking out', he needs to stay calm and under control. Use the word 'no' when needed, and praise when he does good.

Obedience classes is a good start to learn how to teach your dog to heal and stay focus. Other then that, when you see someone coming move to the other side of the street and always have your dog leashed. The halty collars I hear give good control.
Good luck.

Ok, when this happens distract him with a treat or toy. When (and if) he looks away from the other dog and stops barking reward him with praise and the treat.
After a couple times of this add a command like "stop" or "look away". Once he learns this command he should be trained to stop what he is doing and look at you.
Hope This Helps!!! :)
