    18. I am always confused at how this law has not been on the ballot recently. I mean as LEGAL adults how can we be deprived of something that is in stores? What exactly is 21? I mean at 21 you aren't anything higher than an adult, your still an adult just like an 18 or 19 or 20 year old. 21 does not work because we have 18 year olds on a college campus binge drinking at some house party, where if it was 18 they would not worry about when the next time they could score some alcohol would be and drink a little less. It works throughout Europe so why can it not work here? Really pisses me off as an American who i said to be a legal adult yet is still deprived of rights

In Michigan the voters approved lowering the age limit from 21 to 18 years of age in 1976. What happened is traffic fatalities spiked at a alarming rate there was also many arrests for public intoxication. As a result of all this the law there was a petition drive and the law went back up for a vote in 1980 then the law changed back to the age of 21 to legally purchase amd consume alcoholic beverages. Sorry if you disagree with this but the facts speak for them self.

I think it should stay 21 because I had to wait and count down the days and hours until I could legally buy! Make all under 21's suffer like the rest of us legals had to! heheheeeeee

sure it is going to be reduced. Im 17 and that i understand that maximum all babies already drink. so why no longer decrease the consuming age to 18 so i dont might desire to bypass for the duration of the complication of looking a place to sell me beer. all babies drink already so what could be the wear of a minimum of letting or no longer that's felony.

The age should be 30 years of age to drink. By that time more people might be more responsible. It is not safe on the highways these days with the drunks also high on drugs. Being in combat fighting wars is the last thing you need at the machine gun with you is a person with his mind in the bottle. If you are a Squad Leader going on patrol with some person whose mind in the bottle ,You will be talking to that person with a Warning that they screw up you Will remove their privates forthwith. I have been in the military with drunks screw ups. I set them straight from the start. One guy from Chicago I did that too.He and I parted good friends. Was I surprised! When your butt is close to the frying pan so will You..Them Days are fast coming

I remember when the drinking age was legal at 18. Kids (yes, I said kids, despite their privileges at eighteen) are not missing anything by being legally permitted to drink and get drunk, which is what they will do. Yikes, I sound like my mother...Eeewww, I hate when I do that. :)

EDITED IN RESPONSE TO FIGHTING FOR YOUR COUNTRY AND LEGAL DRINKING AGE

In most States, a person can obtain a hunting license at age 12 and drive at age 16. US citizens can vote and serve in the military at 18, serve in the U.S. House of Representatives at 25, and serve as the U.S. President at 35. Other rights we regulate include the sale and use of tobacco, and legal consent for sexual intercourse and marriage. Vendors, such as car rental facilities and hotels, also have set the minimum age for a person to use their services—25-years-old to rent a car and 21-years-old to rent a hotel room. The minimum age for initiation is based on the specific behaviors involved and must take into account the dangers and benefits of that behavior at a given age. The minimum age for initiation is also based on physical development, including brain function. The military recruits 18-year-olds fresh out of high school because they are young, impressionable, and highly trainable. This does not mean these 18-year-olds are ready for alcohol use.

Alcohol actually affects teens differently than adults. A teenager may look like an adult physically and may even appear more physically fit, but the teenager’s body is still developing. According to the American Medical Association (AMA) it actually takes less alcohol for a teenager to get drunk than it does for an adult in his/her twenties. A normal adult’s liver can safely process an estimated 50 alcohol calories an hour (one ounce of 40 percent alcohol). However, studies show that a teenager’s liver can only process half that amount before they experience harmful effects. To ingest only 25 alcohol calories per hour, a teenager could drink no more than one-fourth of a “light” beer over the course of one hour.

Early onset of drinking by youth has also been shown to significantly increase the risk of future alcohol-related problems (e.g., addiction, getting into fights, drinking driver crashes, other unintentional injury).

Inexperienced teenagers drinking and driving are the reason for this law.

i think it should stay at 21, because the human brain is still heavily developping actually into your mid 20s. so the idea of prohibition on alcohol for the under 21 crowd will obvoiusly not prevent us from drinking completely, but it will put a slight damper on the activity. so let me reitterate... i think the law should stay the same, but i think that its perfectly normal for people to drink illegally after HS graduation. i think its actually a good idea for kids to start drinking sparingly during those years. but only sparingly. then at age 21... well we do what we want.

i do think it would be nice if they let up on the constant checking of ID's though, cause its annoying for those of us who are legal drinkers. lolo

Because when you go to college, you're supposed to be studying so you can be more productive members of society when you're done. If you don't want to do anything with your life, go ahead and flip me a Big Mac; but I'd rather you be able to read and write, hopefully in at least two languages.

I don't think it really matters, because most kids start drinking at 16.

Although I think it's ******* insanity that you are not allowed to have a glass of wine with dinner, yet you are allowed to risk your life in combat in the army. How does that make any sense??

Although in Europe where they don't have a drinking age, the rate of alcohol-related deaths in kids under 21, is like, astoundingly lower.

    For thought.
