Where are the druids?

The entire time I've been here, and all the religious beliefs I've seen come though R&S, I can't remember seeing a Druid?

I know they're out there, is there some reason they're not in here though?

The original term was "Drui" (singular), or "Druidi" (plural). They were the educated class of the Ancient Celtic culture, although they included clergy they were not actually a priesthood. Their number included doctors, lawyers, scientists, all the professions. If you check the contemporary accounts none of them describe the Druidi as priests, they were compared to the Magi of Persia or the Brahmani of India, scholars not clergy. The idea that they were priests was a result of the Christian prohibition against anyone outside the Church receiving an education, since they did that they assumed everyone else did as well. They had been systematically persecuted to extinction by the end of the First Millenium CE.

The modern revival dates back to John Aubrey (1626-1697), although there are unconfirmed accounts of an order that dates back to 1245. In their current form the Druids consist of a number of Neo-Pagan faiths world wide. I myself was a member of the American Druidic Fellowship, the Ar n Draiocht Fein, and I've known a number of members of the Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids, which is based in England and dates back to a Welsh stonemason named Edward Williams who took the Bardic name Iolo Morganwg. It's likely that a lot of the Pagans who answer questions have a background in the Neo-Druidic traditions, it's just that most questions are general enough that they probably see no need to mention it.

The reason for that might be because no one really knows what druids did in their religious practice, since the Celtic culture was based on oral history and nothing about druidic ritual was ever written down.

It is believed that the druids were the priestly class of a certain religion, though, not the name of the religion itself, and not ascribed to all the followers of the religion.

I've seen more Wiccans and Heathens than Druids, but I do believe there are a few here.
