should i keep my 208 transfer case ?
i have a 1985 gmc jimmy it has a 208 transfer case i heard they wasn't that good should i replace it with a 205

The 208 and 205 are both part time cases, which is desirable. The 203 is a full time case, and must be converted to part time to use manual locking hubs. The 208 is an aluminum case with a chain drive for the front axle, while the 205 is stronger with an iron case with gear drive internals.
I would use the 205 case with a lift and big tires and/or a built engine. It is a stronger piece than the 208. The 208 is fine for a stock driver and will provide a long life if cared for.
I don't know the gear ratio differences if that matters. Sorry.

My motor rolled over 378k while the speedometer cable broke. i've got been using it for 3 years thinking and not using a issues rather then a modulator valve...And speedometer cable... I actual have the standard 350 V8 that got here in it in 1980...Oh and 350 swifter trans...Transmission replaced into as quickly as rebuilt approximately 50k miles before loss of odometer...furnish or take.

if it is working fine don't mess with it tile it goes out
