His snoring is OUT OF CONTROL!!?
My boyfriend has an out of control snoring problem. He's had his adenoids removed, and it seems everything under the sun has been tried to ease it, but nothing seems to work. It's gotten to the point where I wear ear plugs every night and sleep with pillows over my head, and I can STILL hear him! It's frustrating and tiresome.
Does anyone know of any inexpensive therapies or ANYTHING that can either make him stop snoring, or keep me from hearing it, aside from earplugs and sleeping on the couch? I'm desperate!
He is not over weight at all and I don't think he has sleep apnea. His snoring is persistent whether he is on his back or side. Breathe-Right strips are a no go.

There are medical ways to help him (and you). He should see another doctor and get another opinion. Maybe an ENT doctor (ear, nose and throat) would be better. I don't think he has tried everything yet.

Snoring represents some type of airway disturbance. Positioning of the neck can change things while sleeping. However, a sleep doctor can also check the throat for anatomical defects. The Breathe Right strips may work also. If there is no physical impairment or apnea going on, a good set of earplugs are an affordable option.

I have the same problem. There are nights that I just get up in the middle of the night and go home. Only thing that helps us is when he doesn't sleep on his back. Also, make sure he doesn't drink alcohol at night. That seems to make it worse. My bf is about 50lbs over weight so we are working on that as well. They also snore more when they are really tired so make sure he doesn't let himself get super tired.
Hope this helps. Seriously though, it is going to pop up every now and then. So, maybe you can get a noise machine to help drown out some of the snoring. The ones with water flowing, etc..

If he is snoring, then stops breathing, then inhales deeply, maybe kicks or thrashes his legs - those are signs of sleep apnea.
As the first person that responded said - apnea is a killer. He should have a sleep study done to see if he does have it. If so, they will prescribe a CPAP machine. They will adjust / recommend the proper settings, so that he will get the most benefit from using it.
There are a variety of masks that can be used, just will depend on what feels best for him, and fits best.

He probably has sleep apnea. After a sleep study if it confirms that they will give him a cpap machine. This is a mask you wear over your nose that keeps a continuous flow of air going in through the nose to keep everything open and clear in his throat. It will stop the snoring from day one!

Nasal strips often don't work because most problem snoring originates from the throat and not form the nasal passages.
You can get a product called slumber Guard that fixes this problem.

Is he sleeping on his back? I used to have a really bad snoring problem, I tried everything. What ended up working was me sleeping on my stomach. I have no idea how it worked, but it did. Try asking him to sleep on his tummy and see if that helps. To this day, my girlfriend laughs, because if I fall asleep on the couch or in a chair, I snore SO loud, but if I'm on my tummy it's just a short HVRM or hum here and there. Good luck, I hope that my advice helps!

He probably has sleep apnea. There is away to fix the snoring. Or maybe if he is over weight he could loose a couple of pounds and see how that is.

Wow, I can't believe there's someone out there that has the exact problem I do. Right down to the ear plugs. Man can I ever identify with you. Have you tried a wedge pillow, I have and it doesn't work for my hubby. If you do find an answer, please forward it to me.
On the same page as you for sure.

I don't know what size your bf is, but weight can be a major cause of snoring, especially if they are already prone to it (which seems to be your case).
Good Luck - Fellow earplug wearer and pillow stacker
Source(s): I have the exact same problem with my husband. I find it even more infuriating because if he'd just lose 40 pounds the snoring would lessen immensly. (He had surgery a year ago, lost 30 and the snoring almost stopped - then he gained it back plus some)
