Height of your 1 year old?

We had the folks say my daughter was very small. At one year, she was 23 inches long (I think...), and 17lbs. So about the same size as your little one. They showed me a growth chart, and she was right on the line of being too small. So for a month we monitored everything she ate, took her back, she had gained a pound and they didn't bother us after that. It worries me, she's 14 months old and fitting in her 9 month old outfits still. But, there's small kids in my family, and 17lbs at a year has happened more than once.

With her, we had to make her sit down to eat all of her meals and snacks, because otherwise she'd get up and run and work off the food before it was even in her mouth. It also helped her to focus on eating. Because of how small she is, I'm not taking the bottle away from her so that she still gets a middle-of-the-night feeding. I also keep crackers on hand almost everywhere so I can hand her one to munch on if she has a moment. Even so, she just doesn't seem to be growing. Her eyes are bright, she has good baby rolls, but she is just tiny.

So... I share your worries.

My 14month old son weighs 26lbs and is 86cm which is very tall for his age. there was a 1 year old in the waiting room when we were at the doctors and he was about the same height as your little boy. Did the doctor ask you to come back? Are you and your partner small? It could be his genes, I think my son's so tall because my mums side of the family are, my little brother who's only 14 years old is 6 foot 5inches tall!! Xx

I don't remember my daughter's height but I know she was only 29% on the growth chart. At her 2 yr check up she is now up to 69%. She is about 27 months old and just shy of 3' tall. I am only 5'2".

Give him time, he may hit his growth a little later.

My 21 month old girl is around 90cm and weighs under 20lbs. I have lots of friends and our children are all born within 3 months of each other, and the height and weight difference between them, girls and boys is amazing. One little girl, who is 4 months younger than my daughter is taller than her, but then her mum is about 3 inches taller than me :)

my 1.5 year old is 86cm, 13-14kg. (whatever that is.) i forget which. But docs seem to say that he's "well built" and "well fed" (meaning he's soon gonna be overweight)

So, i guess we can't win either way.

If your boy is happy, and sleeps well, then there's nothing to worry about. maybe he's just naturally short, and he's going to be skinny and 5ft 5 when he grows up, instead of my sons estimate of over 6 ft.
