What would you say to big Al Iafrate today?

He lost his hardest shot record to Chara yesterday, after 16 years. What do you make of that development and would you have any conciliatory words for Al?

I'd say his record held out longer than his knees and that he still has the record for best ever hairdo - or don't - at the time of a record setting.

Thoughts?

Update:

Defender, was he drinking coffee, smokin' a dart or both. Al's the man.

Frank, he's at Warrior now, working with younger NHL guys to make sure they are using the right stick specs for their shooting style. He certainly has the credibility for such a job, right?

Update 2:

Bob, is that what you'd say to the man? Why rub salt in Al's wounds, man?? The guy just lost a record he never had. A little compassion maybe?!! LOL

Yeah, I know all that. Nonetheless, Iafrate's mark was officially witnessed and recorded by the league. The stories of Hull's feat are varied and not as "official" and more like lore, if you will.

I met him at a bar D/T Detroit a few years back. We chatted very briefly, mainly I congratulated him he was thankful. I also asked if Paul was a cousin of his (for my confirmation-a guy I went to High School with) which he replied yes. I replied, "at least you got the better nose in the family".

Zap, i met him at River Rock Cafe if you are familiar. it's been closed for a few years now. As for big Al he sure is something. He gave me a look after my question and I knew it was time to go. I had a few beers, so I was out of line when I saw and asked him. I wish I was more in control, he was there by himself, I would have loved to stay and talk some more.

  • Any guy who lights a dart with a blowtorch is good by me. Loved watching "planet" Al play.

Keep in mind Iafrate used a wood stick. I'd like to see what the guys today do with wood sticks.

  • Goooo Chara!

Time for the Bauer one95. He'd put the puck through the net.

"Bobby Hull owns the hardest shot record.............Iafrate only holds the ASG Skills competition record."

From an LITY post earlier......which is true.
