Are wedding rings not supposed to be worn at work especially those in the nursing field.?

My husband always does not wear his wedding ring when going to work.He puts it on when he comes back home. The reason he said for not wearing it is the type of job he does.He said he does not want it to get damaged. Can this be a good reason. What's your opinion especially those who do nursing jobs?

My mother is a nurse and does not wear her wedding ring to work. It's isn't a rule, but she finds it really uncomfortable. She has to wash her hands all the time so it could slip off and it can poke or be uncomfortable for the patients she's helping.

It doesn't say anything about my parents' marriage - they have been together for 32 years in February, and are very happy. It's just a practical consideration. They are both confident enough in their relationship that the symbol of the ring isn't necessary to them.

Besides, no one ever has to wear a wedding ring. Some people don't like jewelry, or find it uncomfortable, or just can't be bothered. It says absolutely nothing about their marriage - it's only an indication that they don't care for jewelry.

My father is a nurse he doesn't wear his ring while working. With all the hand washing it could come off. Bacteria can stick to rings and where he works in the ICU and burn unit with people with really bad immune systems he doesn't want to risk harming anyone.

None of the nurses on his floor wear jewelry. The rings could be damaged or cause a health concern.

Even though nurses wear gloves they're still dealing with all sorts of bodily fluids and waste all the time. You really don't want to to be wearing a wedding ring while doing all this.

My parents have been married 25 years and this has never been an issue with them.

I am a senior in Nursing school and we were told that we are not allowed to wear any rings or other jewelry. So, your husband would be correct. Bacteria can get trapped inside of the prongs and other spots of the ring. So no, you are not supposed to wear rings to work in the Nursing field.

ETA: Also we wash our hands so much, it is kinda hard to wear jewelry when you constantly have to wash your hands and keep putting on gloves and taking them off. Also, depending on the type of the ring, it can injure patients as well, especially the elderly.

A lot of women nurses do not wear their wedding rings because of the gloves and hand washing. I'm not sure a man's ring would cause the same issue.

Depending on where he works it could be damaged by chemicals. The biggest problem is all the hand washing and gloves on and off so much. You really have to be careful to dry your hands well or can break out under a band due to moisture. Engagement rings for women can cause breaks in gloves, injure patients and cause injury to the wearer when making beds if it gets caught in the springs.. When I was working I frequently pinned even my band in my poocket especially during OR rotations because of the antibacterial hand scrubs. He may choose not to wear it for this reason too. If it bothers you for him not to have it with him ask him if he will wear it on a chain around his neck under his uniform.

I think people in the nursing field can wear their rings. When a nurse works with a patient, they are suppose to wear gloves. So, I don't understand how the ring can damaged or anything. The only think I can see a problem with, is having to wash your hands often. But, lots of people have to do that and still wear their rings. You can easily take the ring off, wash your hands and put it back on. I work with kids all day and I'm always washing my hands. That's what I do, I take my rings off, wash and put them back on. It's not really a hassle.

Unless, someone does manual labor or gets their hands really dirty, then you should be wearing your ring.

I'm also in the health field, and no we can not wear our rings to work. We really aren't suppose to wear any jewelery, but a watch to work. Number one gloves tear on the rings. Two jewelery has been proven to trap germs around it causing health issues. Three we work with chemicals to clean room and Instruments that can cause permanent damage to the metal and diamonds. He is right to to wear it to work.

I have two sisters who are nurses. One was in general surgery, she wore her regular diamond ring set. The one who is an ICU nurse, though, wears a separate plain wedding band.

You can wear it. It is just a personal preference. Some of the nurses I work with, both men and women, don't wear their rings to work.

It sounds like it is a trust issue to you, though. Maybe he should buy a cheapo ring or a tungsten one that can't get damaged to wear to work.

in Nursing, you have to wash your hands SEVERAL times because the risk of body fluids and diseases...remember, gold is soft too so if you're using oyur hands a lot, there's going to be a lot of wear and tear on the ring, so make sure its good quality gold....
