9month kitten/canned food/how much?
Our Kitten is 9 months old and weighs about 10 lbs, she cannot eat dry crunchy food due to having Periodontal Stomtis,,,the dry food makes her gums bleed,,,poor thing, she really loved the dry 2...I have been doing some looking at labels, geez, they all have different recommendations,,,currently feeding her fancy feast, she wants 3 (3oz) cans per day, is this 2 much,,the water content on all of the reasonably priced canned foods just doesn't fill her up...when she was on the dry, she was a grazer, eating whenever she wants, cant do that anymore...any suggestions?
Mellisa,,,,,did u read the question---she CANNOT eat the dry food, gees...

I'm sorry to hear your kitty is dealing with stomatitis, that is so not fun..
Actually feeding her wet food is way better for her health than dry anyway, so you are helping her not only by making eating easier, you are feeding a better quality of food. Check out http://www.catinfo.org/ a website run by a vet who studies feline nutrition (most vets do not) for why canned is much better.
As to the amount. at 9 months she is still growing, and will need additional calories to help her. 9 oz of food per day is not all that much. It is sad that FF comes in such small containers. It has a rep for being a 'bad' food, but it has a lot of great qualities. I used it for years for my diabetic cat due to it's low carb content in some of the varieties.
You can find good quality food in larger containers. the website I mentioned does have a list of some recommended foods for optimal health, which is ideal since you are dealing with health issues.

Fancy Feast really isn't the best wet cat food. It doesn't really have the best quality ingredients, especially if it's going to be her only food source. I know the other stuff is more expensive but it's better quality, which also means she won't need to eat as much of it because it'll have more vitamins and nutrients in it. Nutro is a good quality food and they make wet cat food. Also I've heard Purina is pretty good as well. Look at how much dry food you used to feed her and you can measure out that much wet food and then break it up throughout the day. She may be eating the wet food more because she can finally chew without hurting but you don't want to just let her eat and eat or she'll gain weight so try and measure it out. Breaking it up throughout the day (morning, afternoon, night) will give her enough to be satisfied but not over stuff herself.

well i have two cats myself and we got them when they were only kittens. At first we had them on pouches as you can get one for kittens which helps because they are small squares easy to eat of course! An maybe as shes small make sure she has dry food during the day just to see if she wants them and then feed er pouches twice a day maybe. If you think about switching say Felix food to my cat then just mix the new food in with the originally food making sure there is more of say the my cat each day and eventually give it only my cat etc. that sort of thing!
My minds gone blank now if i type anymore it willl be utta rubbish so i wont hope it helps thanks!

Some cats don't know how much to eat and will eat everything you put down. So it is up to you to put down the right amount of food. A 9 month old 10lb cat is not healthy. Give it half a tin of food in the morning and the other half a night. And make sure she gets some kind of exercise. Chase after her so she'll run a little.
