Which has best chance of accidental damage, garage door(not fully open), or side mirrors attacking garage?
As the garage door opened today, heard an unusual sounding thump. Went to observe what happened, husband was standing outside and the guard for the bottom of the garage door was on the floor. He said,"The door wasn't open far enough when I pulled the van out." He drives a small car and plays chicken with the garage door on his side every day but it doesn't work like that with a large vehicle. Anyway, my side of the garage has been backed into, mirrors have snapped off and I 'm sure, one of these days I will pull in the garage too fast and lose a mirror too. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone else?

I would say the garage door. A few (or many) times I've come close to taking it out, but there is more than enough room for my car and the mirrors. One time my hubby tried to back out of the garage with the car door open. After that, the car door didn't close.

Way back when was a time when I considered the possibility. The closest thing to a garage out here is used to hold a orphaned kid goat or two or a couple of baby lambs who were the weaker of the two in a set of twins. Nature has a definite way of assuring the survival of the specie. A ewe will take the stronger of the two in a set of twins and leave the weak one if there is any doubt of survival of both lambs. Goats do the same. Some breeds are known to be better mothers than others and where the elements are a definite consideration a good stockman knows what breed to bet on. Most garages in the country serve a better purpose than to get a vehicle out of the weather.

It is something I have to be careful of everyday since we bought our car last year. I have scraped the side mirrors a few times so my husband glued a styrofoam block on each side of the garage entrance as a precaution. At the back of the garage he placed a mirror so I watch that to make sure I see a space on each side when entering. Usually when I drive into the garage, I just hold my breath!

My garage door is well trained now. A year go, it attacked my truck mirror. Since it was a heated electric one, cost to replace ( you cant just get the mirror anymore) was $268.00. I went home and shot a few holes in the garage door. Now it knows whose boss and has steered clear of me when I am coming or going.
Occasional that little Smart Alec cord emergency release gets itself stuck in the passenger door on purpose after taking out groceries and tries to pull the door back onto the truck when I am leaving. Fixed that little bstard also. I cut him 3 ways. Long, deep, and continuous.

Haha! All too familiar with me!
I have hit the side mirror a couple times now - once knocking it completely off.
I have also backed out and scraped the roof rack of my suv on the garage door that stopped short about 2 inches.
So I guess for me the odds are greater that I'll hit the side mirror........
unfortunately

Our garage door is human and likes to play games. I come home and hit the automatic door opener in the car and as the door goes up and I know I am clear I give the car the gas and fly in just as the door starts to come back down. In the mornings it is the reverse. No problem. Poppy

I have done both. Garage door scraped roof of car and broke the side mirror off the truck. Learned my lesson and those things won't happen again.

probably not with a computer, but they could if you live in one of those new high tech houses where everything is wired and you can open windows and stuff though a touchscreen and if that is connected to the internet then literally they could but i doubt anyone would if your garage door has those side slide locks things im pretty sure someone could open it with a crowbar or something but probably not a stick. they would have to break those lock things though it would be really hard either way

No, but our garage is small for two cars so I guess this will happen eventually.
