What's with all these people asking?
"What MOS gives the biggest bonus"? "What job will I NOT deploy"?
"What MOS will I move up in Rank the fastest"?
What ever happened to joining for the honor to serve your country?
Sounds like a bunch of wussies looking for handouts
Redacted: I understanding wanting to make smart moves/decissions, but what if you sign a 8-year contract to get that large bonus in an MOS you might not even like or no nothing about or have no desire to really do that in life.... then what?

When I joined 18+ years ago I initially needed a fast track out of Ohio, then after getting to my first ship I realized " Hey man this isn't about you any more" and it changed how i look at the whole MeMeMe crap these kids are doing nowadays. I went from one rate (MOS) in the Navy to another both of them just as locked up as the other. I more than likely will never pick up Chief (E-7) but I am not worried about that I just enjoy my job ant try to teach these knuckle-headed youngsters how to do it right. So to all prospects for (for the most part) our military's future remember these words from President John F. Kennedy " Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."
My interpretation of this statement is this. Stop looking for an easy way out, get off your lazy a$$e$ and go get it your d@nmed self

Why do you think the government has been f'ed up?
Because they only care about what helps them, also!
It's not just the people in the military, it's everyone!
Looking at another perspective, though.. It makes sense to get as much knowledge as you can, so you make the military as easy and enjoyable as it can be. It's not going to be easy and enjoyable most of the time, but why not try to get the best out of it?
But, honor and pride should come first.. Then everything else after that.

That is why I keep bringing up the reasons for joining. The military is not an employment agency or a way to get some free education. It is a service. Its purpose is to protect and defend, fight wars. Not about getting the most money for the least work. It's no wonder more 18 year olds get kicked out now than ever before.

Thank you! I feel the same way. My husband is a soldier, I was one, and his cousin calls all the time with questions like that. They don't want to fight for the country they only want the job that isn't laying off. You have to take the good with the bad to me. We joined to fight for our country not for what the army could give us. Its call honorable welfare!!! For most people that is the only reason for joining.

Maybe, or maybe it's people being smart about making life decisions... you know, just looking at the other side of the coin.

Then you put your head down and do your duty to your country. You did, after all, sign the MFin' contract, right? We both know being in the military is not about anything doing anything "you like"... in fact, there's a lot that can be unpleasant about it. The mission comes first. You know that.
Regardless of whether or not you and I like it, these are the kinds of things that help our military reach their recruiting goals each month. These people are offset by others who join the service as open-general. Besides, as you and I both know, their "me first" attitude will quickly be quashed in basic. As long as they're signing up because they want to, I applaud their ability to think outside the box, plan ahead and and identify what is best in the long run. Thinkers, people who can find a better way to get the job done, are the kind of people I don't mind having in the military.

they are kind of annoying to look at. And then when no one gives them an answer they ask it 15 more times in less than an hour

Everyone wants something for nothing. That is why you see so many questions on here about trying to upgrade there discharge codes.

As long as you serve faithfully I see no wrong in trying to maximum Uncle Sam's payout, since Uncle Sam will get the maximum out of us.

This is the type of thinking that brings the military NCO's who look out for number one rather than taking care of soldiers. It really is sickening.

Most people are just looking out for themselves these days. It is really sad.
