how long for water heater to heat up?

I installed an electric water heater and i'm wondering how long it takes before it is hot enough to use,

    It depends on the size, 40 gallon depending on your incoming cold water would be around 5 hours based on 45 degree cold water.

    Residential? Maybe an hour.1 1/2 hr. max.

    Look in the book for the 'recycling' or 'cycling' time. That is how long.
