Hm, it almost sounds like you have a type of agoraphobia...I too have form of this and found it very difficult to deal with crowds and such. The way I deal with it is trying to set myself little goals, like trying to stay within a small group of people for a certain length of time, I know your situation is different but perhaps you could do the same sort of thing. If not you will need to seek medical help, but don't be afraid to ask for it, this problem is quite common.

This is beyond "shyness." You are growing dangerously anti-social. It's not good for your mental or emotional health to avoid the company of other people so constantly. You need to get out and practice direct personal interaction.

Start by eating meals at home. Greet your dad and girlfriend in the morning and when you come home.

Then set a goal of asking each of them at least question every day - something that requires a full answer, not just yes/no.

Your next goal - spend one afternoon/evening with a relative or friend at least once a week.

You should also consider seeing a therapist to address your social avoidance issues.

How old are you? Both of my sons went thru a reclusive phase around 16. But it sounds like you attribute this to "hiding out from the girlfriend" and it sounds like your dad is too preoccupied to really notice. Even at the height of seclusion my boys ate meals with everyone else. Try to start with that. Have lunch or breakfast with the others . If you are still in school, you really need the parental attention, so try talking to your dad. As far as his girlfriend, start by asking her some simple questions. Ask if she has brothers or sisters, if she likes cats or dogs, or maybe birds as pets...if she has ever had pets, what her favorite has been. What kind of music she likes. Just something simple, don't have to play inquisition, lol.

Well, No, I have never had that problem, But, you should live like you always have. Just make sure you have pants on when you are outside your room. Do you think you are depressed? You did not tell us how old you are either. Just be yourself. How does your father feel about your behavior? Does he notice?
