TAX REFUND MORE THAN PAPERWORK FILED ?
I used Taxact.com The paperwork is filled-out automatically after you enter your specific amounts of income, with-holdings, etc. The 9th step of Taxact is to run alerts to make sure everything was entered correctly. Everything was entered correctly and Taxact E-filed my paperwork for me.
I received my direct deposit refund today. It is 300.00 more than expected.
Instead of screaming, " YEAH", I want to find out what happened and why. I don't want to be contacted by the I.R.S. later down the road demanding a payment to them due to an error in their system.
If anyone with tax knowledge could help coach me on this, I would appreciate it very much.

It could very well be the stimulus. If you are claiming an additional child under age 17 this year, you could be eligible for the extra $300. Also if you did not receive the full amount of $600 last year then you could be getting the extra $300 this year because you had an increase in income and therefore your tax liability.
Believe me the IRS is checking each return to see if it qualifies for any extra stimulus, up to the full amount allowed. The checks last year were sent based on the filing of the 2007 tax return, but are being reconciled by the 2008 tax returns.
You might want to check and see if you entered in Taxact the correct amount of the stimulus you received last year. If you reported too much the IRS will have adjusted and sent you what you were eligible for. If you are not sure what you received last year, check the link below to find out.
Hope this helps and does not confuse you.

nicely, I stay in Canada, at the beginning . there's a baby help order with family members accountability and that i'm to be informing them if i do no longer obtain a cost . I pronounced them while my son's father did no longer pay, and then lower back that he hasn't paid for the previous 3 years and that they sent him a letter stating that they could be garnishing any tax credit or refund he grew to become into entitled to.

most likely the 300.00 extra is from the recovery rebate credit from the rebate checks last year.if you didn't get it last year or you did but qualified for more this year based on your 2008 tax return then the irs adds it to your refund automatically,so if your situation changed from last year like you had a child, earned more income,or you was claimed as a dependent last year but weren't this year then you qualify for the rebate this year, you got a 2nd chance.
